A few years ago, good Ole Miss banned red light cameras statewide. The primary argument was that a majority of the money was going to out-of-state vendors. Citizens - 1 Carpet Baggers - 0.

A couple of years ago one of my installers had a habit of running red lights. The pics I would get in the mail would show the front of the van with the plate and driver high lighted and one of the rear of the van with the plate and red light high lighted. We could tell which van it was very easily and allways charged the installer for the fine, there was no fighting it in court, in my opinion it is clear proof of unsafe driving. Just recently the city of Dayton passed a city ordinance that if you have 3 upaid red light tickets and they run your plates the will impound your vehicle. The city has also recently added speed cameras. Simple solution is to follow the law in areas known to use cameras for traffic to control.

I think that is normal for every city. The city only gets a small percentage and the company that maintains them and sold the idea to the city gets the lion's share.

Unfortunately, the OP lives in New Jersey, where carpetbaggers come from, so he'll never beat them.

I personally would like to see red light cameras on all lights and speed cameras on all the roads. Give the money to China to pay down our debt. At least then maybe 95% of the people would drive like I do. Right now I believe it's only me and Shu--on second thought maybe just me who tries to do the speed limit and stops at red light and lives in fear when stopping at ever yellow lights. (like what Cap Ranger implied, that's it's safer to run a red light then stop for one)

The law wants money, they'll get money. Might be worth fighting but in the end, and in my experiences, you'll get the ticket regardless.

I remember when red light cameras first came out , hearing of a guy who got a picture in the mail and a $50 fine to go with it. He took a picture of a $50 bill and sent it back to them.. Then he got another picture of some jail bars.....

Most stop light camera tickets are municipal administrative tickets and not as demanding as state citations. Legal requirement is more like civil which is more likely than not likely. Or a tad more that 50/50.

Some local official hears the challenge to the tickets and says yes or no. It does not go on your driving record.

I hope you mean red light cameras. Here, they are all set up to take pictures of the front of the vehicle only, And then only when you enter the intersection after the light has turned red not when the light is yellow. No front plates on motorcycles, so........
