I live in Clarksville, Tn right now because I'm in the Army and I get to go home in 4 days thank god, but anyways I know how you feel with this tail gating crap. 41-A is a heavily traveled road here as it is the road that goes in front of ever gate at Ft. Campbell. I kid you not when I tell you that there is atleast 2-3 wrecks a day on this road and atleast one fatality a month. People think of it as their own personal speedway and if you are in their way they will get right up on your butt letting you know they want by regardless of what you ride or drive. A few years ago this road was voted the most dangerous road by USA Today, I feel that it is still up there. The bad thing is that no matter what you do they will continue to do it. I have tried swerving, slowing down, tapping on the brakes, revving the engine, nothing seems to work other than you have to drive faster then hell or risk you life trying to stay out of the way.
tailgaters wether im riding the bike or car **** me off. i will usually either slow down or give them a hand gesture to back off.
alot of what has lead to this problem is 80% of ppl dont travel the speed limit anymore. the speed is 65 on interstate here and its rare to see anyone running that. most are doing 75 or more. same problem on the side and back roads. so when you do have someone running the limit, the one who isnt is gonna come flying up behind them and ride their azz thinking its gonna cause the one in front to speed up.
i had sent a nasty little email to the NC governor asking what he was paying the troopers to do since they wasnt cracking down on speeders. guess its time to send one to the troopers as well. i figure once enough ppl start complaining then something will be done.
Raven, just call the local department and tell them, dont be rude to them that wont work. You may need to call a few times, if that doesnt work, then you can be rude. Most people tailgate because they trust the person in front of them driving so much to take care of them or they just have zero mechanical understanding of how far it will take their car to stop after they react to the incident ahead of them. As for when I get tailgated in my truck I tend to just tap the brakes if that doesnt work I slow down alot then speed up if that still doesnt work Ive been known to lock up the brakes on the freeway. I dont have the crazy 2 lane back roads like you guys do though. Its straight Mad Max action on So Cal freeways.
Since statistics are supposed to drive actions by LEO administrators, makes me wonder if they are deploying LEO's/campaigning that highway?

I usually get to the right side of the lane I'm in and spit a huge goober directly over my left shoulder .If this don't work by the second time I will slow a little so there is more room in front of me.If I don't have to make a sudden stop then they won'y either. Some cagers don't realize how fast a person can shut down even a big bike at speed.
tried that. they just say that they are too undermaned to catch them all. funny thing is though, i cant remember the last time i have heard of anyone getting a ticket for tailgating even though it is illegal.
i feel sorry for some of you though as im not in a big city so its not near as bad as it is for some of you that do live in or around a big city.

My self I like the MAD MAX option. I got to say that was one of the nice thing's about the old day's when most cagers were too dam scared of Bikers to ever consider tailgating one.
I used to carry a handful of BBs for those times when a cager got a little too close for comfort. Bounce em off the road behind me and watch the cagers slam the brakes. But things are different today, most of the idiots around here are strapped and its pretty hard to outrun a bullet. Nowadays I just move over and let em pass, seems a little safer.
No matter how big of a bad A$$ you are, your 700lb bike is no match for a 4000 pound cage. I have to keep my middle finger in check for just that reason.
