Default being tailgated

I live in the Raleigh NC area and have experienced some real problems with the cagers tailgating me. I know I'm not the only one having this problem..what do you do about it?
It's a obviously a no win situation and with traffic as heavy as it is here, there seems to be no escaping it.

Slow down and let them pass....I would rather have them in front of me. I do know of some people that actually stand up and turn around and look at them. They say it works, but for me I slow down and let them go

Or watch where you are going a bit more. Looking at them seems to work...It's a bad problem here.

I usually turn around look at them and give them an odd look like where the hell are you going. I find that it usually just wakes em up enough for them to realize that they are tailgating and they back off a little. I love the ones that decide to try to pull up next to you in the same lane because its legal to split lanes here every once in awhile you get a cager that thinks its cool for them to pass you the same way.

I hate when cars think they can share a lane when I am smack dab in the middle of it. That's when I start staring at them like a madman...I used to have a really bad habit of slamming my brakes for a split second while being tailgated, and then flooring it to escape. I was never in a an accident due to this, but I would definetely not suggest doing this. You wanna see a cager get in a near wreck, and then try to chase you down...that is the way to do it. but I was much younger once...

Increase your following distance so you have more time to react.
Some places everyone tailgates and all you can do is hope to get a rider behind you that will keep their distance.
