Default 6th Gear RPMs
Just got a 2012 Ultra. Driving 75 MPH I run about 27-2800 RPMs, which is not much different than 5th gear on my 2005. Friends tell me 6th gear on their bikes is like overdrive, running around 24-2500 RPMs at 75MPH. Did they change gears on the 2012?

That's right where my 09 is 2800@75mph , geared plenty high for my riding

Yes. They changed them

They changed the gearing on the six speeds in 2009. Here's the specs:

Final Ratios on tour bikes:

2006 (five speed) 3.150
2007 (six speed)
2008 2.790

2009 - 2010-2011 - 2012 2.875

MY 07 Heritage it right at 2800 at 75 in 6th.

My 2011 sg turns right at 3000 at 80 mph

My 09 Ultra turns 2200, maybe 2250 at 65, never checked it at 75.

My 2006 5 speed ran out a 70 MPH @ 3000 RPM'S. My 2009 Runs 10 MPH faster. 80 MPH @ 3000.

Sound like the same as I run on my 2011 RK w/96.

The HD site claims the bikes now run lower RPMs w/103 ???
