I went down on the New England Thruway about 30 years ago. Automatic human response is to put your hands down to break your fall. No fun with bare hands. I don't know how much skin would have been saved had I been wearing gloves at the time but I do know how much I lost. Gloves are hot in the summer but I won't ride without them anymore. Short fingered palm padded gloves add protection while being cooler than full fingered gloves for summer use. Gay? ...if you say so, but I'll keep my skin next time. I imagine you will too after you've put your palms down while doing a 40 or 50 mph dismount.
It doesn't bother me to wear full gauntlet gloves even on the hottest day. I've had some things bounce off my knuckles pretty hard and glad to have the protection.

Correct. Along with over the ankle boots, long sleeves, long pants, reflective vest, etc. Although I remove the long sleeves and reflective vest off base. If you don't have all the required gear and have an accident a "line of duty" determination has to be made. That could mean the member has to pay their own medical bills or the surviving family not getting the insurance (worst case). I doubt anyone would take away the life insurance if the member died and didn't have all the gear...just like they say suicide cancels it, when it doesn't.
No kidding, I hadn't seen that yet when I posted. I'm actually looking forward to my mesh jacket to get here now so my arms have some protection too.
Ya , I'm getting skiddish enough anymore with the insane drivers think I'm going to gear up a bit too and I'm as old school hardcore as it gets with my riding habits . Been almost 30 yrs since the last time I had to sleep face down on the kitchen table because of road burn , at my age it's no joke anymore even to think about . Hide just doesn't snap back anymore .

I've noticed that I don't heal up as quick as I used to, and I'm still a under a year short of 40. I'm getting old man eyes too, can't see things up close anymore.

Got 17 on you , you've fun to come yet . Took a few hard slams in my 30's and I swear I feel them more now than when it went down . Got lucky eyes didn't start the games till over 50 so I can't complain but the keyboard needs bigger keys I swear .
