I have a cheap Hot Leathers vest and have no issues with it at all and I don't have a windshield on my bike. I got mine just a tad bigger than I wanted so that I could wear a hoodie under it and still fit nice. Over all it's good.
I've been considering the Icon Regulator stripped vest.
I like that it doesn't have "ICON" plastered on it and that it has the ability to be easily adjusted. It also comes with back armor in the back that is very low profile, which is a plus in my eyes.
However, only thing that stopped me from purchasing is the fact that they run $230!!
I've went through 4 vests. Riding without a windshield or fairing makes a difference. I found a vest that has lapels and made of heavy leather that doesn't buffer when riding without a shield on my FXDC here's the one that worked for me, too bad it's brown but you can get black: http://coronadoleather.com/i-6507804...apel-vest.html
BTW it's an excellent gun vest as well.
If you go through 4 vests, do you mean you just throw them away? Do you get new patches or tear off the old ones and put them on your next vest?

One I gave away to a riding bud, the other 3 are in my closet. Patches are an issue, so I try to keep them at a minimum.
Amazon has $30 vests. Made of buffalo leather. Don't know if that is good or bad. Some vests have gun holder pockets and badges and patches sewn on. One has a big hawk over the American Flag on the bask. Quite impressiive. I've only had my ride for 3 months now, so maybe am too new to deserve a vest? I think the people I see on the road wearinf vests look like people who have been riding for a very longtime. Someday I'll get one! It will be a milestone for me.
got the Fox Creek Highway 21 vest, lace up sides and no matter if I wear it over a jacket, mesh jacket or just a shirt - never had any issues at speed. Dyna Super Fat Glide with no fairing or windscreen. Great quality too and has a gun pocket built in if you need/want one.
