Default I'm jazzed

My best friend, more like a brother, have known each other when were were teens. I'm 50 and he is 52. I have some time under my belt but not much. Has only been 8 years. So, he bought his first Harley last week. New to him, 2008 Ultra with roughly 9500 miles on her. He fell in love from first sight. He never understood what I was saying about when you know, you will know.

On the down side, I'm here in AZ and he is in CA, so just going and checking it out is roughly a 6 hour ride. Not too bad and that trip is coming.

He is at that stage of life where he raised his kids, fixed up the house and wanted something for him. His wife was dead set against him getting a bike.

Not sure why, even though I asked a couple times. No real answer to me just something she did not like. They almost got divorced over it when he turned 50. Maybe she thought mid-life crisis.

So, fast forward - His 17 year old daughter says, "I'd love to ride with you dad"...Well, the wife has a change of heart.

He has had bikes before but nothing like this. So, he is pumped and is now being exposed to the "Bagger" life style.

Funny how things work out. Just wish I was closer to just take off and go ride with him for a day but that will happen soon enough.

Anyway, just thought I would share since I am sure there are others here that can relate -

Be safe -

That's pretty cool. You guys ought to ride to a run in CA and then he could make one in AZ, (beside the just the two of you enjoying the great roads and company).

If that is his first bike, give him a little time to get used to riding. You could plan to meet someplace in between, say a 4 hr ride for you and 2 hrs for him.

Default I Know How He Feels!

Went shopping for a Sportster 4 years ago. When the wife walked over and questioned the salesman, "where do I sit?" you could have knocked me over with a feather! So I bought a Sundowner and took the bike home. Then she didn't want to ride! She had never been on a bike before and my best guess is that she didn't want to ride until she was sure I wasn't going to kill us both.
2 months later she casually asked me if I was ever going to take her for a ride? 1st ride was literally once around the block. 2nd ride (about a week later) was out onto the highway for 5 minutes. The summer ended with a couple of rallies and a weekender down at the shore. SHE WAS HOOKED!

THEN she passed a comment that she would be much more comfortable on a bigger bike. Didn't have to twist my arm to much - hence our Road King! Nowadays it's bike nite every Tuesday, Sunday rides to wherever and such. What started out as a new different way to commute back and forth to work has ended up becoming part of our lifestyle. PRETTY COOL!

I am happy for you and your friend, I hope you get to ride together soon. Unfortunately, my wife and I don't have any friends that ride. My nephew does, but right now I think he is too young and dumb and I am not interested.

Man, is this so true! Take my advice. Ride six hours to see him (and the bike) and he can ride six hours to see you once a year or so. On one of these trips, find a nice restaurant or other place that the two of you appreciate that is half way and meet up there from time to tome. Six hour trip may seem like a lot, and it is, but a three hour trip to do a little riding and see a great friend is nothing.

My riding Buddy of 30 years lives 200 miles and a mountain pass away... We manage to go to two out of state rallies a year and get together to ride 2-3 other times. If one of us says ride...we ride. The only thing that will stop us is snow in the pass. It helps that we are both retired....Woo yeah..
