Nope. 6" over your shoulders is the law here.

Here in Louisiana the law is 15" above the seat, which is ridiculous. That being said, I have never heard of anyone ever being hassled by the po po for apes, or any other equipment issue for that matter. I guess they have other things to worry about, or it hasn't been pushed by their superiors. I ride with a non-DOT helmet and rode without any turn signals for a long time and cops never gave me a second look.

I never had any issues with my 16" apes while living in Kentucky. I heard when I moved to Florida I would. Been here for two years and not one issue. However, during the rallies I see the LEO's pulling over a lot of out of state bikes for their ape hangers. I know it is a revenue thing and maybe they leave the in state bikes alone because we already pay our taxes.

North Carolina

Handlebars: No restrictions.

Sound: No acoustic criteria

But they do make us wear DOT helmets.

I did get stopped in NV one time but once the officer realized I was from CA he told me the best road in the area and sent me on my way.

Wonder if anyone has ever fought these laws...I never understood the reason behind them, however, I have seen some really high apes that I think are definitely a potential danger...but how did these laws come to be? What are the factors that made the laws? Maybe the AMA has the answers..

Just thinking out loud, but points that may help in a legal battle
- Licensed Doctor claiming that due to shoulder, back, neck pain you need to keep your arms elevated while riding a motorcycle
- Expert proof that a higher handlebar does not hinder the operation of the motorcycle (ie. braking, steering, shifting - although slow speed steering maybe somewhat cumbersome, the bike still turns the same way)

I'm sure we could come up with more...I'm just so sick and tired of these types of laws, I don't need the Fed or Local Government telling me what's good for me, or what I should be doing. And please don't tell me it's because they are protecting the majority public.
