here in nevada, we have a helmet law, so I wear a 1/2 helmet. even if there was no law here I would wear one. I have been over the bars, face first into the pavement. after a dislocated jaw and over 1200 stitches in the face, no one will ever change my mind! yet I never preach about helmets to anyone.
I wear a full face Shoei RF1000 year round. Solid White "because you are 40% less likey to be involved in a motorcycle accident when wearing a white helmet". That was quoted from my Riders Edge instructor who is a State Policeman. I already had the helmet but it was nice to know i finally did something right.
All I can say is that if you believe that I have a bridge I'll sell you cheap!!!!!

Is having a conversation with you always this difficult? .. The 1/2 helmet provides negligeable crash protection, and serves primarily to comply with state laws that require helmet use for motorcycle riders. Why you want to argue with me, I don't know, ...
Actually it is because of comments like that. A 1/2 helmet provides enough crash protection, not neglible. It will not prevent direct face impacts, but accidents are rarely that, especially not without severe body trauma. And that has been my point. AFA your track day, I stated fact about drag racing, and it basically means the fast cars must have protection added for what could happen. Try and bring a 10 second car to a track with just 3-point belts. You will never run even the bleach box.
Does full face offer some better protection? Sure. Are you just risking your life wearing 1/2? No. Choose to wear or not what you want. But don't present things un-realistically. 1/2 will do fine for most accidents, especially the ones you can limp away from.
DOT half for me. Went down at 45 mph. and it did well. I just got a cheap full face for the cold and don't like it. Feel clausterphobic. But in thier defense, a while back one of our forum friends, ******, Had his melon saved by a full face.
I wear a 1/2 most the time in warm weather. When temps are above 60 I take along a 3/4 on longer rides, in case of rain, etc.
For cold weather, I wear a modular full-face to keep warm.
I think I am probably most comfortable with a 3/4.
I believe a helmet can contribute to saving my miserable @ss, do to past experiences. A 3/4 or full being the better choice.

Much of what you wrote above is not true. Facial impact injuries are not uncommon. I encounter them with a considerable degree of frequency. What I am apparently unsuccessfully attempting to convey to you is that most all car track day organizations will permit you to take a very fast car on the race track on a track day and drive it very fast without a roll cage (since you injected the subject of roll cages in the first place), but will require that you wear a full face helmet. Bring your 1/2 helmet, and you'll be sent packing. Same thing with bike track days, where I have the most experience. Obviously, crashing at the track is a lot safer than crashing on the street, so you are only exercising your right, which I support 100%, to wear the less effective safety equipment in the more dangerous environment. 1/2 helmets provide negligible crash protection, and there is no rational way to refute this.

Once again you are wrong, unless like negligible you are using your own definition of 'fast'. You cannot run a 10 second car on ANY track I've ever been on w/o a minimal roll cage, and every track my buddy takes his Nova to requires him to have a roll cage. In fact, if he drops another 1/2 second or more it will be an 8-point that is required. That is pure 100% fact. And 1/2 helmets are far from neglible. If they were negligible, not wearing a helmet would be basically just as good. There is only one place full face wins out, and that is direct facial hits. In those the 1/2 helmet is negligible.
Perhaps you have some friends place that he allows that stuff, but ain't happening on any track that wants to stay open from lower insurance. Sure I can run my 13-second Chevelle on any track w/no safety mods, but that is not fast by drag stds. 10 seconds is a fast car.
