I have a ccw but dont always carry. When carrying, I am much more likely to avoid a situation that could escalate and let more slide by without reacting. Not that I wouldnt hesitate to protect/defend but understand the responsibility that comes with it.

All the discussion about guns is nice, but the OP had a responsibility to report a drunk and dangerous driver to the police to get the menace off the road. That responsibility wasn't met.

That works...as long as the other guy doesn't intend to shoot you to begin with. If he does, and you don't "make any quick movements" then all you're doing is sitting there waiting for him to decide to pull the trigger.

Just something to think about.

I'm not always on my mc but I always carry.
I saved 2 Co-eds from being raped by 5 urban youths up in Bear Mountain NY back in the early '90s after parking my mc.

The US government issued me a .45 Colt when I was 17 years old. I was a combat medic at the time. The weapon wasn't issued to me to kill, but to protect my patients lives. I have pulled my weapon out on about 5 occasions since. Most of those times were to protect someone innocent. I don't carry to kill, I carry to protect.

To the OP, I have about a dozen holsters for about 20 sidearms I own. Like a golfer, one club is not enough, neither is having only one side arm or holster. There are times I carry in a fanny pack around my waist when I ride.

You were in a bad situation, but survived without a scratch. Those that tell you it's too late, he already drew is BS. He may jam, he may miss, even if you drew late you may save yourself from his 2nd shot.

Those that are concerned about going to jail in defending one self in a non gun friendly area. My advice, carry a revolver this way you don't need to worry about spent brass. Get out of the area and keep your mouth shut.

Why is it that the law-abiding citizens have to fear protecting themselves and the criminal doesn't. That's BS!

You don't have to be on a long distance trip to become a statistic. The evening news shows every night someone becoming a statistic locally. This isn't the wild West, it's WORSE! In the wild West there was respect for human life, not today with these two- legged animals that our liberal minded politicians allow into our country for votes. In the wild West you got convicted you got punished, today it's everyone elses fault but the criminal.

NEVER GIVE THE CRIMNAL THE RIGHT TO DECIDE WEATHER TO LET YOU LIVE. STOP BEING SHEEP! YOU DON'T LIKE THE LAW, THEN CHANGE IT.

If a law abiding citizen get arrested for protecting him or others, get off your lazy donkeys and go down to the court house or police station and protest, demand your politicians change the law.

Remember, if it's to dangerous for a LEO in uniform to go unarmed, what's that saying for the rest of the sheep?
I agree!
Did I miss the post on what the guy did once he pulled the gun? Did he point the gun at the guy, did the other guy take cover?

Default I always carry

Excellent IWB holster.

Beretta PX4StormSC in .40

Because its my right, and it makes me feel better.

Nuff said.

In this case I probably would have pulled up behind him, got the tag, then alerted authorities, then if possible followed at a safe distance to help authorities locate him.

I carry either OWB or in a vest pocket. Either a 1911, G21 Glock, or XD45. The OWB is prefered but sometimes the shirts I wear just doesnt come down far enough.

Is there some compelling reason that motorcyclist should be packing a hand gun? I can see having a weapon if I where on a long trip, camping out or being in a remote place that your life could be in danger. But, driving to the store or to the job or just cruising around town I need to pack heat??. Sounds very dramatic to me and dam foolish. Some of these comments sounds like they been watching way too many John Wayne movies. If you pull out a gun and shoot someone weather your right or wrong you got major legal financial issues. I fully understand that a gun levels the playing field real fast but the need to carry one and use it in case there is a problem is remote. Tough question to answer. Either way you cut the cake, packing and using a gun on another human being is serious stuff. If out alone and by myself, I'd consider it otherwise, one should reconsider the whole issue.
I am totally baffled that someone can assume safety is cruising around town or just going to the store but may need "heat" if going on a trip. Also, if "alone" would consider carring a gun. Are you saying that you intrust your safety and possible survival on bystanders? What if your just "cruising" when bad **** happens? Your post tells me you have not put any thought into the subject.

The world we live in has made a dramatic change in the last several years. Mostly fueled by the drug community. Criminals are kicking in doors of occupied homes to steal valuables to feed their drug habits. This is not just happening in other towns. It's going on everywhere. When
they can steal a man's wedding ring and get $200 in scrap gold money, this drives the crazy behavior. Look around. It happens everyday.

Picture this....you are cruising around, nice day, just outside town. Your check engine light comes on your bike and it sputters and dies. You call your buddy on the cell phone and he will hook up to the trailer and be there in 30 mins. Five mins later an SUV pulls over in front of your bike. 4 guys get out. One has a bat and another has what looks like a piece of pipe.

A few things happen right now that will affect your life forever.

1) You plead for them to leave you alone.
2) you pull your licensed pistol and all four of them haul ***.

Option 2 occured with a friend of mine 3 1/2 years ago. He was skaken like crazy. But he was alive and uninjured ONLY because he was prepared to defend himself.

Don't carry a gun to make yourself some bad-*** that will search out confrontation. Avoid conflict and violence if possible. But, do not be a sheep and say there is never any reason to carry.

Always prepare for the worst.

I'm a big fan of concealed carry but believe more crimes would be prevented if more people went back to carrying like this or John Wayne style. I like that we have open carry here in Nevada.
