Default Don't believe Walmart.com

After much research and reading here and elsewhere I became convinced that I have been overpaying for Motorcycle Specific oil. I have been using Mobil 1 20W50 V-Twin at around $10 a quart. So I decided to check in to Mobil 15W50 regular oil. I went to www.walmart.com for my search. When I typed in the 15W50, it found no matching results. It did, however show the V-Twin Mobil as in stock for $9.67 per quart. So I decided to go to my local store (which was the one I searched) To my surprise, I found 5 qt. jugs of the 15W50 for $26.62! There was NO 20W50 V-Twin in the store. Totally the opposite of what the website said....So, the 15W50 works out to $5.32 per quart. About half the price of the V-Twin. Consider me a convert! And do NOT go by what the website says!

I'm glad it's back. Wal-mart quit carrying the 15w50 for a while.

Is the 15W50 a V-Twin oil or just automotive synthetic oil?

There is a big disconnect between the WM website and the stores. Which is really stupid if you think about how much money that company makes. You would think some dim wit would consider linking the real time inventory database to the website. DUH?

Sears is the same way.

It is automotive. Less additives but only by about 10%. However the Vtwin 20w50 is more shear stable. The 15w50 will shear to about a 40w in about 1000 miles in a Harley engine. It will shear out even faster in a shared sump bike like I have where the trans is beating it all day. The Vtwin will stay in grade all the way to 4-5000 miles.

I believe it is just regular dyno oil.

you always pay more than the price listed when you shop at WalMart.

No the Mobil1 15w50 is a group IV synthetic. It should have a PAO base oil. Just less anti-wear additives than the Vtwin in ppm count.

That is correct. The v-twin oil has a JASO stamp which is meant for shared sump type bikes. It isn't necessary for our bikes. The v-twin oil is over-priced for what you get. And let's be realistic, none of us hold out for the 5000 mile oil change and the 15w-50 is more than adequate for a 3000 mile change. And only the gold top mobil bottles are a group 4 basestock. Everything else is group 3 or less.
