Always figured the thing to do in a thread such as this was to offer advice; how to accomplish it, how it may not be done, or some of the problems that may be encountered. Tossing in a little encouragement is a good thing, too. Otherwise it's generally better to just lay low. Shoot, I don't even care if the OP comes back. Maybe someone else has been thinking along the same lines.

Short 'n' sweet - If'n you got nothing to offer except negativity, take it to the Whiner's Circle.

I almost got the ex a Sportster like yours, PineyRider.
Chicago HD was building them to look like a Heritage, but I didn't feel like flying to Chicago and riding it back in the winter of 2002.

I bought this Sporty in the winter a few years ago. It was on e-bay and the pictures of it were really fuzzy. It was in the back of some garage. I should have known that something was up because the price was cheap. The listing said "Bring a trailer or just RIDE it HOME"!!!!. So I figured being the middle of winter I brought the trailer to go get it (rather than my heated gear). I didn't want to mess with bringing a lead for the battery to hook up my heated stuff. I GPS the address and it brings me to this dirtbag auto salvage yard about 2 hours away (Toms River NJ), I thought I bought it from some private owner.

The place was a madhouse, people coming in and out. Titles being exchanged, people waiting to be paid for junk cars that were towed in on wreckers. They seem to be at a loss as to where the bike was. One guy finally remembered it was in this building behind a snowplow blade and a riding mower.

We pull it out and it's obviously been crashed. Forks bent back, tank dented, turn signals were torn off....etc. I looked at the guy and said "Bring a trailer or just RIDE IT HOME"?!?!?!. He said the guy that does the e-bay sales isn't there on weekends. Since I was getting a whole bike for basically the cost of what Sporty engines (by themselves) were going for, I bought it anyway. I re-checked the auction when I got home and saw the forks were bent But you wouldn't know it by the angle of the pictures (no picture of the side of the tank that was damaged though). That salvage yard must have a lot of experience in taking misleading pictures.
