The Wife bought me chaps 7 years ago , I've worn them maybe 3X . They don't keep the "BOYS" warm in real cold weather and they sure as hell are not going to protect your *** if you hit the asphalt ! Those leather bibs look good or even leather pants , I use some regular bib coveralls and long johns , if that won't cut the cold I'll be in my Chevy HD2500 with the heater on .

I used to wear coveralls during my winter riding...they only barely helped. They just don't stop the wind.

Got a fair deal on a pair of chaps a month ago and the first cold day I had to wear them it was amazing the difference they made. Now the coveralls stay in the closet and only come out for chores outside the house in the winter. For riding, the chaps come out.

My concern is that is one were to rip a nasty fart while in the saddle, with chaps the stench dissipates outward. However, with the overalls, one would think that the stench might get trapped and woft upward, some of which might funnel up through the bib. That could lead to incapacitation while riding and clearly a safety issue.

Chaps for me too they block the cool very well in fact I am getting ready to buy a pair with the snap out insulation. Hey glideman if you fart in the bibs at least it will keep you warm and remind you how good or bad what you ate to make the fart was.

I've always worn chaps for cold weather riding but last winter I was in our local tractor supply store and they were having a sale on insulated bib overalls. I got to looking at them both Carhart and Bernie. I liked the Bernie ones better because the material was not as rigid as Carhart. I bought a pair of them and I am so glad I did. Never wear my chaps anymore.

Now, these are a heavy insulated pair. Some they had for less money they called insulated but were not nearly as thick. I would say these are a good inch and half thick and they offer you a lot of protection and warmth. All I wear underneath them are Duofold thermal underwear and a flannel shirt up top.

If I should ever go down I hope I am wearing these.

Same here. Wear my chaps when it is cold or cold and raining. Never had anyone make a stupid comment to me yet. Have a friend that actually has leather overalls he wears when cold. Probably the warmest person in the cold ride. He looks like a walrus wearing them but no one has made that comment yet. Function over form makes a lot of sense but people are inherently stupid.

Chaps have served me well and nobody has ever given me any chit about wearing them. At least not to my face.

laugh out loud on this one a guy says he wonders how leather overalls would look but likes chaps, you freeze you ***** off with chaps i imagine they workd well on legs, but besides how silly they look on a guy and forget the gay thing if your really into winter driving go with leather riding pants why not pertect the family jewels and if you got caught in the rain with chaps and walked into a reastraunt it would look like you pissed your pants
