i just dip the left grip in boiling water for about 30 seconds. loosens up the glue enough you can easily twist it off, and don't have to cut anything.

Stock cables are damn good quality actually better than most aftermarket stuff . give yours and good looking over and a bit of lube you should be good . Lot's of info on how to inspect cables and what to look for available add a service manual you'll do fine .

Our bike is going on 6yrs old and 36k,, still has the org grips and cables..

I clean the grips every month or so, and lube the cables every Yr, the grips are still like new and the cables work fine.

Hello everyone.... i just changed the grips on my 06 fxsti. If you guys are talking about the little clips that hold the throttle cables into the housing bein a pain the easiest way to do them is after u get the grip outta the way give each clip a small shot of wd40, hold the switch housing in ur hand and give the cable a little yank...it will come right out, the clip will stay in the cable for you. If ur new cables come with new clips give them a shot of wd and push them.into the switch housing....your new cable will be locked into place and ul never have to mess with those stupid little clips......i know this is an old post,i came across it doing a search, but hopefully it will help someone and keep them from spending a bunch of time messin with them stupid things
