I have been using the Fox Creek overpants for a few years now. The leather is heavy and they felt broken in out of the box.
The zippers are really heavy duty. The seams where the zippers are sewn in blew out in the area where my hips bend on both sides. The were repaired by FC and have never failed again.
I treated mine with Snoseal and they shed water pretty good. I've never used chaps, but don't think I don't think you could go wrong with these.
Good god.... For that kinda money? No thanks...
NOTHING would be warmer than heated over pants and Gerbings is the way to go.
I rode 400+ miles last weekend in upper 30 degree temps. That wouldn't have been a consideration if I didn't have heated gear.
I have the LeatherUp Xelement overpants and they are killer - you should definitely check them out...here is a link: http://www.leatherup.com/p/Leather-C...aps/54767.html They are only 81 bucks with the 10% off new years coupon code advertised at the top of the page now. And I will go ahead and say it now before the naysayers pipe up...as with most of the LeatherUp products, you have to see this stuff to believe it - the overall quality and thickness of leather is outstanding and you will be very pleased with your purchase!

Take a look at Snow machine gear. I've been using gortex insulated overpants and jacket for years. The jacket has extra long sleeves like a MC jacket, w/ zippered and velcro closures. Pants are "Bib" style w/ suspenders, zippered and velcroed up the sides of the leggs for easy on/off. Both have "thinsulate" insulation, so they are pritty light(packable in saddle bags). (Water tight like a frogs a$$)!
I've ridden in high 20's/ low 30's often, and I'm certain could do so w/ nothing more than shorts and a Tee shirt on under it, and be fairly comfortable.
Hope this helps
Best wishes....Tim(HT)

On sale for $165 is not to much for the added protection.
As another has said, I also had the misfortune of having a touring bike totaled by a young lady who first looked at me and then pulled into my left side. I rolled off the back over the trunk and slid down the road. She cried uncontrollably as her young husband was serving in Iraq at the time and a small child was in the rear seat. Her plate was full....I told her all was good and walked away.
Her insurance co did pay for my bike....
My leather jacket and helmet saved me from road rash. Rain pants and blue jeans were not in any condition to go anywhere but the trash.
Went to a Honda shop to get some Gerbing gear (only stocking dealer in the area) the girl helping my commented how nice the FXRG pants I was wearing were, I noticed they had some FG pants and it was clear why she said that because they aren't even in the same class. Much lighter leather and not as many features. If I didn't have these I would probably go FC. BTW - the heated gear works great under them.
