I went for a 120 mile ride it was a sunny Sunday - and 63 degrees on December 10th in Virginia! That's incredible ("Thanks to global warming??)
Anyway -- for anyone familiar with Virginia roads - I made it down to Warrenton from Gainesville, took 211 West, climbed up the into the Shenandoah (hills) and entered the Skyline drive and headed North towards Front Royal -- only a few folks up in the hills (2500-3000 ft elevation), so no cars really to deal with..I did see about three bikes along the 35 mile Skyline stretch -- I exited into Front Royal - and took I-66 (not the well known 66) ***** to the walls (80 mph avg) back to Gainesville- --
Thanks for reading - just had to share - -What a day!
You are really lucky to be so close to something like Skyline Drive.I've done the whole road in a car and always thought how much nicer it would be on a bike.Sounds like you had a good day.
Dude, that's the exact same route I take whenever the weather's nice. I was stuck in bed this whole weekend....got the flu. And could tell how nice it was and had to turn off the cell phone so my riding buddies couldn't make me feel any worse.
Don't put the bike away. The extended forecast is for unseasonable warm temps next weekend, too. In fact, temps will be above average all week. (I would like to go get the bike during lunch today, but I've got'a attend a meeting this afternoon 65 miles away at UVA.)
Laurie and I rode with friends up along the BRP yesterday. It was great getting out and clearing our heads.
Figured I would jump in with a pic, this was over the summer but definitely one of my favorite destinations in VA...
Good looking scoot ya got there Fireman......living just less than 40 miles from Skyline Drive, I have tons of pics as well. But, until I bought my first H-D ( 04 Wide Glide ) I never realized just how nice of a ride it is. Now I have a year long entry pass........
