Several years ago my cousin was a border guard here in British Columbia. If someone from the nortern states crossed and said they had no firearms they were believed and let across. They were trained to search every vehicle from the southern states whether they said they had firearms or not. And in most cases they did find weapons that the driver didn't want to declare. If you try to cross with a weapon and tell them at the border they will hold it there for you until you cross back into the states. If you tell them you don't have a weapon and they find it, it's gone. You will never see it again.
I travel to States regularly on my bike, in a tractor trailer, in my car and usually once a year with my Toyhauler. I have been waved through on occasionasked a couple questions on occasion, or been completely searched on occasion. it is completely random.
Here's what I think regardless of what you are driving or riding.
1.There are great Customs officers on both sides and total a**hole Custom Officers on both sides
It's the same at the Border as it is in any other business, just be ready for the good and the bad, and if you get the bad bite the bullet and take their SH** or it can get really really bad.
