Angry The Wave

The wave to biking "brothers" is a bunch of BS!!!

Let me first say, I always return a wave, also when passing a bike sitting on the side of the road I will "ask" for a thumbs up or thumbs down sign to see if they need help. A thumbs up I'll continue on, thumbs down I'll U-turn and see what they may need. Now I know that placing a helmet or flag on the bike or ground signifies help is needed, but some don't do that.

That being said: just this past week my riding buddy and I were returning to base after a long ride. His bike quit, luckily we were in cell phone range and could call for a tow. However, while we were sitting there for approx. 2 hours at least 2 dozen bikes passed, some in groups others solo. The solo riders didn't want to make eye contact at all, some glanced, but none stopped or even ask for a thumbs up. The group riders just kind of ignored us with the exception of one or two of their "bitches" giving their "Miss America" wave. One person did make a U-Turn to ask if we needed any assistance HE WAS IN A CAGE!!!!

From now on, all those that wave to me on the road, I'll wave back, but you don't want to know what I'm thinking!!!

If I saw a single bike on the side I too would ask, but two bikes on the side looks like a rest stop. with one operational bike what help were you expecting to be offered.

Only time i'll stop with more than one bike stopped is if both guys are standing there staring at the bike like they don't know what's going on or if someone's injured. If they sit there chatting like nothing is wrong then i'll ride by every time. Probably have my OL give the "miss america" wave you spoke of.

I understand. Starter on my wifes truck went out in wal mart parking lot. The only person to stop and ask for help was an old guy wearing a neck brace, and my wife grew up here and knows everyone in fact a few stopped to chat with her but never asked what's wrong or anything.

I always stop. Whether I'm on two or four wheels at that time. I don't wave if I need to use the clutch hand (like in gear at a stop light, in a turn or just changing gears). But mostly I do.

I was riding to sturgis two years ago,so here I am on i-90 about a mile before the badlands exit and i see a bike at the side of the road and I knew it was broke down,,,,seat off tool bag on the ground, dash off,,,so i pulled over, well it was about 102 degrees and the guy says do you know anything about electricity,i said a little and walked back to my bike and pulled out my last cold bottle of gatorade and gave it to him,,,then we proceeded to bypass his relays and hit his starter with a hot wire off the ignition, told him get going and get off the next exit.....in the hour that that took us to fix the bike,,,,i saw well over 500 bikes go by and about 400 of them on trailers being pulled by vehicles bigger than my house,,,,not one person even stopped to over a cold drink, nevermind offer to load the bike onto one of their 40 ft trailers with two bikes on it,,,,,the guy i helped was about 30 years old he asked me when we were at the gas station off the highway....You been riding a few years huh?I said long enough to remember when we would have had at least half the people stop to offer help,,,,,,yeah it has been a long time...

Was not the type of wave thread I thought it was, just looked to see the flaming about "how many fingers do I wave with".

Sucks that nobody stopped, I know that I would, because I can tinker enough to break it more and the one time that I needed a hand, someone did stop to help me. I might not be very mechanically inclined, but I know that I can offer some sarcastic humor to the mix and help as much as I could. And I believe in the whole good and bad karma thing. What goes around will definitely come around.
