Default Anyone Have the Bell Photochromatic shield?

So I was buying the new Bell RS-1 helmet on Saturday and the salesman showed me the new face shield Bell has come out with. It's called the "Photochromatic" shield and it transitions between clear and tinted depending on light conditions. It sounds really cool, kind of like a giant pair of those Transitions sunglasses. However, the price tag of $120 is not so cool.

Does anyone have a Bell helmet with this new shield on it? If so, what do you think about it? Does it work well? Does it get dark enough in bright sun? Is it worth the price? Other thoughts??

From what I've heard, it doesn't get dark enough. One of the reasons I didn't get one (price didn't help, either).

I have never seen them in person. How dark do they get? I have the smoked/dark tint shield for my bell arrow. It was 34.00 vs 120.00. Ill keep the clear in saddle bag and swap it out for the price.

Yes and I love it. It gets dark enough for most riding, unless you are going directly into an early morning or late afternoon sun. But for me, that is even bothersome with my Wiley-X sunglasses on with my 1/2 helmet. A week or so ago, it was a night bright, cloudless day and when we stopped and I put up my shield, I couldn't believe how much brighter it was without it.

The best thing it, not having to worry about carrying another shield if it gets dark out side.

I purchased it online from the Motorcycle Super Store and payed $110 for it with shipping.

My buddy has one, that I tried on my Bell Star, was not dark enough for me. I do have light sensitive eyes though. I don't carry another shield, as I rarely ride in the dark. I just carry clear safety classes and put the shield up if need be.

I have one on my carbon star and it is amazing. I've never found it to not get dark enough and the thing never, ever fogs.

Worth every penny. Also, that rs-1 is a steal. Ninety percent as good as my carbon star for half the price. I rank it right there with a shoei rf 1100.

It is EXCELLENT!! I have very light sensitive eyes and I don't need sunglasses under it. It goes from clear to very dark. It is well worth the money.

Yep, a good investment, at least for me.

Well, I bit the bullet and got it. Never read a negative review from anyone that bought it/has it. I tend to pack light and now I've got one less thing to pack!

And yes, I thought the RS-1 was a total steal compared to the Shoei X-something or the Arai RX-something. Nicer interior and it is removable. The venting seems more user-friendly as well. Now if the temp will rise above 37...

You'll love the RS-1 the more you ride with it. I have ridden it on long trips with temps up to 103. The ventilation is great. This winter, I have ridden it down to the low 30's and it doesn't fog.
