You walked away and thankfully lived to tell a tale many need to hear as a reminder. Getting the machine patched up will be easy at the end of the day.
Something must've been in the air yesterday. Coming home on a short 70 mile stretch I had 4 cars right-turn directly in front of me and saw 2 "pile-ups", In 45mph zones no less. One was a Ford Ranger pickup with the front end torn off and sitting upside down in gas station parking lot! How the hell do you do that at 45 mph? The other one was 3 cars at a T intersection, one was melded to a light pole, one sitting there with radiator fluid spewed all over the road, and another just dinged up a bit - again a 45 zone but the traffic was running 60. Jeez.
Bike is on its way to local harley dealer tomorrow. anyone have any experiences with harley estimates for wreck? or know a friends experience?
Just wondering how they estimate. i think when my friend wrecked his fat boy they basically replaced anything with a scratch.
hopefully all goes well. I always get nervous over stuff like this. Thinking Ill get screwed or something.
After he does estimate i may go down there and see what we can do as far as helping me with deductible. I know if he does a quote for both forwards since you really cant just buy one, I can get some nice HD floorboards, shifter, peg etc for the price of my forwards. And he cant order just one bag so I should get a whole new set. Fender Ill probably get priced out and maybe be able to order another stretched fender. Well see. Hope all goes well, Im always up in the air on stuff like this. But usually ends up going my way and I worried for no reason.
Dude no disrespect here at all to you, but you were in the INFANTRY and you are worried about all of this wow, Chill, they will get it right i went through this about 3 years ago only 1200 miles on the bike when i T-bone a car $8000 damage done and when i got it back 6 weeks later it was just as it was when i rode it out the showroom. You will be happy!

what does my old job have to do with me worried about getting screwed possibly? It happens. Some adjusters from insurance will low ball guys just so they dont have to pay that much. I know it probably will get fixed and may have some nice parts on it but always that worry about "what if".
I wish USAA did bike insurance, whenever you have a claim they pay YOU. I wish geico gave me the check or deposited it into my account so i am free to do what i want with that money to my bike. If a new HD FLHX fender cost say...$350, I could easily get a custom one for that amount. If geico gave me the check of $XXXX amount like the other insurance places Ive dealt with I would have a sick bike after. But geico was the cheapest around and I never did a claim with them. Oh well, it will get fixed and may be able to do some stuff to it through HD. If not well when I get my VA disabilty back pay I will do the rim and other things.
..when ya get back on the road.......leave more distance between you and the vehicle in front of ya, pay attention, and practice panic stops in a parking lot....carry on..
Sorry about your bike Bud, But by God you got up and walked, that itself is great news, youll get her fixed up and yourself healed and and be back out there in no time, a little wiser for the wear.
If repairs are going to take a couple of months try to get the ins to pay for a rental. I have GEICO and they have been OK. Stand your ground. You don't have to get screwed.

They do, or did they stop? Because my bike is insured with them as of 2/11 and my Deuce since 3/02.
Did you ever answer what you would have done differently and what conditions were like?
As far as I know USAA itself does not insure you, the direct you to progressive. So they may do it but its with progressive, unless they do it now. Not sure why USAA doesnt do motorcycle. Pretty retarded.
Since geico doesnt give me the check directly they give it the check to me and the shop. Guy at HD said he can do the estimate and if i choose to have it worked on at HD the estimate fee will be waved but if he does estimate and i choose to go elsewhere I owe estimate fee. HD said could take over 2 mths for parts possibly. Now If i choose not to go with HD and still look for a shop to work on it or maybe even me take it home and do it myself since its replacement parts really shouldnt geico give me the check than?
Ill see how geico works with me, I had another shop on another forum say they deal with geico and they suck. Take forever for payment etc. Well see. I just wish they gave the check to me. I will fix the bike. i wont run off with that money and stop paying on bike etc.
I also have a $400 helmet reimbursement. Not sure how I get that money.
