If you can get the check, do it yourself and pay the fee. I told the shop i just didnt have the money for the down payment and felt safer storing it at my house than the shop so they didn't charge me.

was this with geico? I did a search and found that if you get an estimate from a shop and the check is to them and you and you decide to go to another shop you have to get an estimate from them and geico will cut a new check to that store. Im just hoping I can get it and do it myself. Will just have to order bags, fender, front fender, and controls and thats really about it. And when I send for paint have them paint fairing. I can do what I want to the bike and be happy and not wait months.
Usually if you owe on the bike they will either cut the check out to both you and the shop or you and the finance company. Talk with your HD dealer and see if they will install different parts, mine is for me. I was told if the estimate says fender they have to put on a fender, doesn't matter brand just fender. So I changed my exhaust, front wheel and a few other parts.

Ok cool. Ill talk to my service rep. He seemed like a good guy. Said if he has to he will put the HD true 4'' stretched bags with lids and hardware down for estimate since I dont have a part number or know brand of bags. So ill see what I can do. I know HD is not as willing to do as much as another indy shop, but ill see what he can do.
Did a search and the bags that harley offers is Bagger Werx. Showed me in his catalog but wasnt in the one I have.
Anyone have any reviews on these? I found one guy on heres thread who has them and they look pretty good.Bags, lids, and all new hardware for $1412. Ill see what the estimate comes out to and If I have to go with those to replace mine I will, hopefully I can get some Bad Dad or something.
Well see about my stretched fender. I dont think HD offers one so hopefully I can order one of my choice.
As far as I know USAA itself does not insure you, the direct you to progressive. So they may do it but its with progressive, unless they do it now. Not sure why USAA doesnt do motorcycle. Pretty retarded.
Ah that made me curious so I called them. They only do in CA now. If I moved, I would be directed to Progressive. Very interesting.
If I had to guess, they feel they need the volume.

Thats weird. USAA would get a lot of customers on motorcycle insurance with all the active, retired, and vets.
I wish they did. I like USAA. I dont mind Geico. I just changed policy to Florida and added medical since Im no longer in Army. $50 every two months. Cant beat that, I just wish they released check to me. That part is killing me. I would be a lot happier If I could just get the estimate and than bring bike home and start calling shops. Bike will get fixed, not worried about that, just not the way I would do it. But hopefully HD and the adjuster will do good. Well see what they do about the bags and fender. Looking to go with the Edge cut series floorboard, shifter, brake pedal etc instead of my forwards. My forwards are about $1000, so should be able too. Ill find out more tomorrow.

Anyone know what HD charges for an estimate? Is it by the hour or a flat rate? Should have an estimate tomorrow. Was done today but didnt hear anything from service rep.
Just wondering. I owe $120 for a tow and estimate is free if I go with HD for repairs. But debating on paying tow and estimate and taking to a custom shop down the street that will work with me and hopefully not have to pay the $500 ded. in the end like I will have to at HD.
Friend, glad you are doing well and can focus on your bike and not rehab.
If you decide to not do road rash again you might want to try motoport.com and read the articles tab about Keeping your hide. After riding many years and seeing the deterioration of drivers, I'm wearing protective jacket starting this summer. good luck on getting your ride back together.
