I always feel like such a tool wearing company branded gear like very expensive leather with a big "Harley Davidson" on it, so I don't. Probably a tool either way.

Do you buy gear for the value or the HD?
I dont wear gear to impress,i look for the best,i own a 30 year old harley leather that works great,I have a 5 year old fxrg jacket that is has over 100,000 miles on it ,in rain, sleet, hail, and snow, the zipper was a piece of crap so i had it replaced,,,,i for one have never gotten a lousy piece of harly gear...some of it looks gawdy as hell, but if you buy for funcion instead of looks,it'll do you right,,,plus i buy all mine on ebay...much cheaper
I'm going very overpriced fashion statement for the gullible stuff works but better can be had way cheaper . Best riding jacket I've ever had came off the work cloths truck , light weight warm down to 30 with just a heavy tee under add a sweat shirt it's even toastier , has a high zip up muffler type collar that tucks to your chin for no down drafts and it's water proof with a gore tex / fleece liner . About $85 and you can have your our name or company embossed for an extra $5 made by Wearguard . Comes in several color including black .
Best part leave it lay anywhere or hanging off the handlebars and nobody touches it .
Why I quit wearing HD stuff years ago so I could stand out in the crowd again funny how it all came full circle like that .
yeh, benway is from this area so he knows what I'm talking about
I'll have to admit there is one Harley leather I'd love to have, and it's the Flat Track Half Mile Jacket. I usually don't like Harley leather, but I like this one. So if I was to get one, it wouldn't be to impress...it would be cause I wanted it.
The only GEAR that I have ever purchased that has a Harley logo is my rain suit. I bought it first and foremost for its features and functionality. I tried several other makes around town and it so happened that the Harley suit worked the best and to date it has not let me down. It was the most expensive but that was in large part due to the fact that it is Gore-Tex which is expensive regardless of whose name is on the product. I also owned a Harley helmet but that was given to me by the dealer when I bought my bike. It was very comfortable and it saw me through my only accident in which I landed on my head but otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought it over other brands.
All my other GEAR comes from different manufacturers including leather jacket and gloves from ICON, helmets from BELL, eye wear from MAGNUM and boots from MATTERHORN. I have chosen these product because they were the best suited for my riding style and I like the quality and looks.
I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing a logo if it represents something that is a part of your lifestyle or a product you believe in. Fact is, most of our clothing is branded so unless we are going to start going around naked because we want to avoid feeling like tools for wearing brands then why worry about WHAT brand it is. I do enjoy the occasional tshirt or sweater or even a hat with H-D on it but I don't define myself through Harley clothing because Harley's aren't the only thing I am about. As far as GEAR goes, if it suits me in ALL areas (form, function, value) then I will get it and use it regardless of what brand is on it. To hell with what anyone else thinks!
Some stuff is great, got my heated gloves and jacket liner at HD, made by gerbing with the same warranty, and the dealer thru in a couple things so price was better, mostly they are overpriced but now and again you can cop a good deal. And yeah it gets cold around here. 36* right now and I need to go to an appointment in Milw, cheaper on the flh

You can say what you want but, GENERALLY, in my experience you tend to get for what you pay for. I'm not saying that you should go out and buy everything you need Harley branded, but I have as of yet to be tremendously disappointed with most of the Harley branded stuff I have bought.
