Been wondering just how different back pressure is between these exhausts and how equal both cylinders are running under each system. I have 2-1 on my FLHRCi mostly due to coercion (no complaints though), but now and then I find few lads who prefer true duals over 2-1. To each his own...Any thoughts?
When you say 2-1 do you mean one sided single exhaust? Or do you mean 2-1-2, which could still look like duels? At any rate, true duels are more about sound than performance.
I'm running the V&H Dresser Duals & love them for the sound. If I wanted fast & high performance I would be riding a crotch rocket not a Roadking. While I know the dyno shows a increase in torque between the 2-1 vs a true dual exhaust I don't think it's that significant. Certainly not significant enough to me to choose a 2-1 exhaust. To each their own I guess. Just my 0.02.
So you have done nothing but exhaust? If so then for inefficiency then you want stock to get your back pressure back. Or something other than stock that is restrictive. Free flowing exhaust is only good if you are pushing more through it. Which means a tuner and larger intake.
If you have a tuner and larger intake then we are back to what I thought was the first question. True duels give more HP and 2-1 (or 2-1-2) gives more Torque. We need torque a lot more than HP so 2-1 is better. No real effect on inefficiency with either one. True duels tend to sound better and 2-1 (or 2-1-2) makes bike feel more responsive. Choices...
I know this is an old thread but my take on this..... I have a RK which I dropped a FM 107 and the whole works. I put on V&H True dual headers and Rinehart 4 inch mufflers. I pulled 102hp/121tq off the dyno. I was surprised at the ratio between the 2 because I have TDs but this is common for the 2009 V&H headers.
I have to ride at a higher RPM level and I feel the bike stall sometimes from lights but I give it more gas and she comes alive. She still has plenty of power and all I need. Only thing that would make me change my mind is the fact that I get 33.49 MPG!!
