I hate heat thrown off an engine. So give me a new TC 80", with FI, and a 6 speed, and belt maybe better but I want a chain.

In Evos (and shovels,etc) if the crankpin needs replacing, well, replace it. Twin Cam? New crank assembly and huge $$.

Let's look at the Twin Cam's mainshaft. Whaddaya know? the gears are CAST right on it. Lose a cog? New mainshaft! Big $$!

The Harley Big Twins rebuildability is becoming a thing of the past, by design. Add in more moving parts, and increased heat generated by the Twin Cam......

I wonder how many TC88s, for example will be on the road in 70 years like a Knucklehead that could be rebuilt time after time. There are Evos that have gone 100k miles without a rebuild, and when needed, it's do-able without replacing everything.

And don't forget the heat:
Evo = 180°
TC96 = 280°

FUQ THAT!

I really like the Evo, it does everything I need it to do.

I knew that Twinkies ran hotter, but I didn't know it was by that much. Wow!

My Evo never had to run on 1 cylinder to keep from melting. Harley needs to go back to the Evo or start water cooling like the metrics have done for years.

I rode a 110, that fkr was HOT, not in a good way. No better than a cam and head job on an 80ci. IMO.

Yeah, that one-cylinder feature on new TCs during certain conditions is not only disturbing...it's telling. No thanks.

Well it's all just a dream. The EPA gestapos would flunk it on emissions. EFI (stock) motors constantly adjust the fuel ratio over the entire RPM range and the new motors run so lean, you can't replicate that with a carb. Not even sure how much longer the air cooled motor will sneak through emissions standards.

The good old days are over. But you can still build one yourself. For now.

That's my 1996 Evo dresser in the foreground. The 2nd Evo I've owned ('87 FXSTC) and all rebuilt 8Kmi ago.

I have to say it's a sweet ride and I can't complain, but I tell you, the first sumbitch that rides up on a Shovel FX wanting to trade and off it goes.

The Evo is simplistic and automatic. It's the culmination of everything the factory learned while pumped full of AMF money and before they lost thier way.

It's just not a Shovel and you gotta run with your soul. To each his own.

Y'know, I reckon the time will come when everyone will start reminiscing about how the current Harley motor isn't anything like the good ol' days when you could rely on a TC to run for 100,000 without needing to do anything much beyond changing the oil.

I can see it now - "Remember how once you got a Twin Cam set up the way you wanted it it would just start first time every time and you never needed to tit about with carbs or jets and make gobs of power all day? Course, we were running on Gasoline back then..."

I'll bet anyone a million dollars that had HDForums been around back then, it would have been filled with people complaining about how that new-fangled Shovelhead isn't anything like as good as the oh-so-trusty Panhead.
