I hung a fork bag on my BRAND NEW Road King and took it for a spin. Afterwards I noticed "dimples" on my front fender under where the bag hung. I learned the hard way why HD doesn't make a fork bag for the King! I got most of it out with a toilet plunger and the remaining - well lets just chalk it up as character. If it doesn't get dinged, scratched or whatever, it probably isn't getting used! No garage queen here!!
Every ding or scratch still bothers me when it happens but after I get used to it ---they become character marks like the wrinkles and scars I carry from years of living. If I can replace something easily. I will but if it is not easily repaired. I live with it till I do a major repair or replace.

Yep. I rode my bike for a week after I laid it down on the freeway. Boy you shoulda seen the looks I got parking at the dealer for parts. I swear I thought they were going to go and move there bikes away from mine.
good to know that I will eventually stop feeling the compulsive need to dry my bike after everytime I ride through the rain.
...but I don't want it to rust ever...

Wash and wax it occasionally and it won't rust. I live in Florida and it rains every day in the summer. I can't count the miles I have ridden mine in the rain and I don't wash mine that much. I do give it a good coat of wax a couple of times a year though. I think that helps to protect it. Mine hasn't rusted yet.
Every new car, truck, or bike, I've ever owned was such that the harder I tried to keep it showroom new, the more bad things would happen to it. So with this bike, I just ride it and only clean it once in a while. It still looks pretty nice!!!
Exactly, just ride it and have fun. Wash it when you want and give her a good waxing now n then and RIDE.
My bike still looks good to me, it's not perfect, but I don't worry about the small stuff. At a glance she's a beauty and my pride and joy...
I never really get bothered. My bike with scratches and swirl marks sitting next to the guys with his bike that just came off of the trailer definitely makes me realize how much my bike actually takes.

Just bought a new Super Glide Custom. My first new Harley. When do u stop fussy and fretting ? Every little scratch and swirl mark freaks me out. I was never like this with my pre-owned Harley's.
My feeling about all my bikes has been it's a motorcycle, not jewelry.
I rode it home from the dealer in the rain and didn't wash it for 3 months.

I agree 100% and also with doer's post. My Ultra is my "forever" bike, and I take good care of her, best oil, proper maintenence, no abuse. Don't ride when there's any salt on the road, otherwise no contraints on conditions. I ride all 4 seasons. She's no garage queen!
