Like any organization, what you get out of it is proportional to what you put into it. I was very active in our local chapter for many years (committee man, road captain). I volunteered at events and made some of the best friends I've had through the club.
I'm not as active in the club as I once was, and wish I could spare the time to get more involved again.
National HOG, nope, but I do it anyway cause I'm a sucker for the Harley atlas that lists every dealership for shirt shopping. HA! double sucker on me.
Local HOG, dear god talk about drama! If they would just become real MCs they could beat each other up and get over it rather than all the clique-y high school antics.
As long as you break down 8am to 5pm M-F, then yeah sure the HOG roadside assistance might be worth it. I wouldn't know since the first and only time I tried to use it (3am on the side of the interstate back in the 90's) I was told to go f**k myself and have a nice day.
So, yeah, I recommend roadside from your insurance company and spend the HOG fee on beer.
I just got my bike 2 weeks ago and have recently relocated, the salesman was telling me about HOG. It seems pretty interesting since I don't know anyone down here. I was wanted to get you guys input and see if it was worth it, pros and cons, etc..
I don't anything about HOG but I was in your shoes a few years back in the exact same town of Mooresville NC. I have a good buddy who is pissed at me for moving out of Mooresville a few months after he bought a house there. LOL Anyhow, if you'd like to meet people to ride with let me know. We'll come by and get ya. I'll PM you and if you want we can meet up for a ride soon.
Depends on what you are looking out of it. I dont travel overnight anymore because I have a young family at home, so I dont need the roadside assist. If I were to break down I will use my insurance or rent a trailer and take the bike home. I dont have ATT so thats out. The local dealer is the only one who gives you the discount and that is at 10 or 15%...I can get 20% online. Lastly I am not going to pay to belong to a club. If you want to hang out with other bikers, just go to local rides or even the dealer and mingle and meet people. Not my thing, but seems like there are a lot of people out there to ride with and not having to pay a fee. My wife bought me a membership about 8 years ago and we never used it, then I got one when I bought my current bike and again never used it.
