Passed a sheriff yesterday. I wasn't speeding so I didn't think twice about it.

Depends on the situation, if he's going too slow, hell yes, pass him....
If yur drunk, holding or wanted, then no matter how slow he's goin' stay behind!

I came up behind a cop doing 45 MPH on a 55 MPH road. As I was passing him he sped up. After I completed the pass he pulled me over and gave me a 20 minute lecture for doing 57 in a 55.
About a week later the mayor from that town called me and asked about the incident. A lot of people complained about recent traffic stops so the mayor was looking in to it. Turns out that this cop was new to their town and this was a technique he had learned where he previously worked.

We have one not far from here that pulls up on ya at nite and hits the high beams... of course if you slow down he pulls you over. Then runs a DUI check on ya... real nice guy once ya learn the routine....

+1,000,000 on that. Over 30 years on the job here too. You are NOT impressing the officer behind you by driving 10 under the limit. Hell, drive the limit, drive 5 over! or get the helloutatheway!!

In most states, including my Georgia, Deputy Sheriff's have arrest powers in the entire state. So don't act TOO stupid around that out of county car or he just may put you on the curb!
