On I-81 in NY you'd have to be pushing about 30 over the speed limit to pass most of the state police cars I see. On top of that you'd have to pass them in the right lane since they just stay to the left. Surely they don't all think they're above the law, they must just have somewhere really important to be...
In a heartbeat and without a second thought – it is the most annoying damn thing in the world to get stuck behind a parade of cars pacing a cop car that is going below the speed limit: annoying!
Monday afternoon at about 5p.m. coming out of Rome, Georgia on US 27 south, a double lane divided highway, there was GA State trooper in the left lane. He was driving at about 53 (limit was 55). He had cars stuck behind him in the left lane and in both lanes everyone was traveling 50-53. Eventually he came up behind someone who got real slow and he got in to the right lane and went around them and continued at about 53 so parade continued. I managed to work my way through the moronic 15 car parade at 55-60mph until the cop and I got to a stop light together. We were both in the left lane and he was in front. Green light, he takes off fast but at his 53 cruise, I got up to him fast…my cruise was set at 60 so I go around him and pass with cruise on and feet outstretched on the pegs. I put some distance between myself, him and his parade and about 3 miles later we get to another light and it is long. I am now in the right lane, he pulls up next to me and I look at him and head nodded, he waved back. Got my green light and set the cruise at 60 for the next round….I didn’t see him anymore. J
Nice guy.
You know what else is annoying as hell…– people that slam on their brakes when cops have someone pulled over on the other side of the road. WTF – are they going to jump in the car and come get you?
The people that are pains in the *** are people like j1mmy’s part time cop co-worker that screw with people with high beams – those are the asses that should be out of a job. And the civilians that drive cop look-a-like cars and cop-like cars with similar paint jobs (all over in the Atlanta area) and get their jollys f-ing with people. That **** should start getting ticketed.
One time I was driving on I75 south in KY and saw some moron driving about 90 fly up and tail a cop. I didn’t get that one. Finally the cop got over, let the moron pass and then pulled him over. It was pretty obvious he was tailing a cop. Must have been drunk – or poor eyesight.
Cops out here will play a little game running a few miles under the limit to see who chokes behind them , hell yes I'll go round them over the limit sometimes if the other traffic is doing to too .
Or maybe they know that if they go more than 5 over that some smart-a** will call the Chief's office and complain about him "flying down the road". Unless your doing something wrong, that cruiser is just another car on the road. If he's going too slow, pass him, then get on with your ride. No worries.
i pass cops all the time if they are driving below the limit.. just wont drive rite in front of them. it gives them a chance to F with you.. i worked with a guy that was a cop part time too in a small town. he said he tailgates people all the time and turns on the high beams to blind drivers in the rearview. when they swerve or slow down, or do anything about it. he has a reason to pull you over. i think cops play a lot of games. they must be bored out of their skulls half the time driving around.. just dont break the law, you dont have anything to worry about. they are on an ego trip, just act like you are "respecting" them.
Yeah, J1mmy, and they'll "respect" you too. Wouldn't want to damage your "ego" now, would we?
We have one not far from here that pulls up on ya at nite and hits the high beams... of course if you slow down he pulls you over. Then runs a DUI check on ya... real nice guy once ya learn the routine....
Which hill you on, want to keep an eye open for that one..

I don't pay any attention to them. If anyone is lagging below the limit I pass them. But then again, I'm not paranoid about getting pulled over by the police. I also usually stay with 5 mph of the speed limit because then I don't have to worry about hitting speed traps.

Yep-- they do the same thing downunder, but if you pass them speeding here it's ticket time.. I pass them every chance I get provided I am under or at the legal limit.
It is illegal downunder to speed over the limit to pass another vehicle even if you intend to slow down after you get around.
