Sorry if this is the wrong spot to post. We are planning a trip down the US 95 from Canada down to Boise then cut across to Montana and back up. Does anyone know of any nice side jaunts or great places to stop and see along the way? Thanks in advance
If your commin up this way, make sure you drive what is called the "Selkirk Loop". http://www.selkirkloop.org/
Its a real nice traveling loop thru some of the most beautiful country BC and Idaho got to offer. It should take about a couple/few days to complete.
There is a hiway just north of Creston (3a) or the ferry road as we call it here, its a old railroad track converted to a hiway and there is @240 corners, some rather sharp in a 40 mile stretch of road and no slope to the road so its a very popular in the summer for bikes and at the end of the road you get on the FREE ferry and hop over to Nelson and enjoy that historical town, come back to Creston via the Creston-Salmo sumit and stop at some of the many beautiful rest areas along the way back. This is called the "Ainsworth Loop" and its a few hours drive time without stopping but can easily stretch into a all day outing specially after cooling your *** off in the Ainsworth Hot Springs.
I live right on 96 in the town of Coeur d' alene. It is a resort town and beautiful in the summer. A good ride is to go all the way down 95 to Boise, then come back on 21 to 75 to 93 and on to Missoula which is an absolutely fanastic ride. From Missoula go on to Kalispell/Whitefish and then back north. It will be the ride of a lifetime.
Hwy 55 at New Meadows takes you to McCall, Donnelly, and Cascade. Better scenery and riding (with some great twisties) and no freeway all the way to Boise. Then take Spud's route back up through Montana. You'll have a great ride through some truly beautiful country.

This guy is 100% correct!! This area is awesome!! I rode this area a few years ago, ended up there by mistake. One of the best mistakes I could have made!
Agree with LeftCoaster in total. If you like twisties, take the road through Idaho City. Beautiful but make sure you like 270 degree 25 mph turns. I did it on a RKC with no problems and one of my buddies had a Electroglide.
Agreed, we've been there a few times.
Also, if you get a chance to cross the border and go into the Canadian "Waterton Park" it is beautiful there too with a lot of ferry's and the ride to and through Banff and Jasper is well worth the drive.
