How much do you think you spend on maint. in 3 years?
I ask because when I bought my ride I bought the "Preferred Customer" package along with the extended warranty. I think both things together cost about $4500. $2k for the warranty and $2.5 for preferred customer.
So... obviously... this only is worth it if you are putting on a ton of mileage. So far I have had ALL of my service done there including the replacement of my rear tire and all of my brakes. And none of this has cost me anything except for the initial investment when I bought my bike.
Now... I am sure some people are going to respond with the "wrench it yourself" thing... But... I'm lazy. No sense in me denying that. And some people may think I paid too much for all of this stuff, but... I got a good deal on the bike it all worked out in the end.
The big reason for me asking... It seems to me that if I continue to put on the mileage I have been I am ahead of the game money wise. Not like the HD Service Dept. is cheap... And I would rather have them wrench it because if they break something while working on it they have to fix it... If I break it while wrenching on it I would have to pay for it. To heck with that.
I still have more than a year and a half to go on this plan. And I just had my 10k service and I usually take it in around or before 2500 miles. And they never question anything about what you want or when you want it. Apparently there is an option for me to renew the preferred customer plan when it expires. The renewal would also renew my warranty... So they would actually refund one year of the warranty on a prorate. So that would go towards the $4500 of renewing it.
Anyway... Assume I put 10k (or so) on the bike per year... It seems to me that the money for renewing the plan would be worth it. Also... it would seem that it would help keep my bike lasting for a long time.

I don't spend a whole hell of alot because no one touches my bikes but me. But for people who don't wrench, it's a way better investment in one of those packages because the cost of tools alone can quickly go above the cost of the motorcycle. Even for "basic" stuff your looking at a serious investment. So I think you made a good call on your part. To each their own though.

I have a lot of the tools... mostly because I wrench on my own cars. But working on cars does not worry me as much as working on the bike. I mean.... If I screw something up on the car at least I still have three other tires to go on. =)
And I'm actually a tool *****... I have some that I have used once or twice. Heck... I have the tool that crimps the new style water hoses in a house together. =) i have used it three times I think. =)

The question "How much would you spend in 3 years ?"....at 10,000 miles a year, I think you did the right thing. Most would buy that package, put a few thousand miles on then trade it in for a newer model

Good for you, and good for them
Yeah... I was talking to one of the guys about that at the dealership today... When I dropped it off I asked them to "Check" the brakes and the tire. They just flat out replcased them. In fact the tech said he could not find anything wrong with the brakes but he replaced them anyway. And I was like, "How the heck can you guys make money doing that?" And then it hit me... Of all the people that buy the package maybe 1 or 2 people out of 30 actually use this thing to their advantage. So the dealership is probably making their cash and then some.
Works for me... if it weren't for the "RUBs" I probably would not be able to abuse this package so much. =)
