I have driven LA freeway maybe two dozen times on road trips I have 15 years of Chicago experience my take is prepare tobgo 80 in bumper to bumper traffic and know your exits ahead of time
I here alot about the freeways & at some time I will be on them but I'd rather take my time heading through L.A.,see the "sites",& generally speaking just absorb the city. This is'nt a get in get out type of thing but more of an experence of L.A. life. Don't get me wrong,I'll be planning & researching & talking about it before I get there.Half the fun about taking a long interstate tour is the preperation. By the way,I've been through N. Illinois many a time on the west end-lots of great roads to cruise.

Thanks again guys. Just what I was looking for. Especially like the info. on the bar scene(it's a Wisc. thing) & the varius routes to get there. I have a month off so I just may have to replan & stay longer in the L.A. area. To Robotech......when I seen your Oddball picture it immediately brought back memories of Ken,a good friend who rode & was a Vietnam vet but is no longer with us. The story goes during his nam days his fellow solders gave him the name Oddball because Ken looked just like him in Kelly's Heros.
Glad to help. Just be sure to check business hours of Hells Kitchen and Cooks Corner before you leave as during the week they probably have limited hours. On the weekends is when they get the most of the their business as you can imagine. On the weekend, Hells Kitchen can see over 100 bikes in the parking lot at one time and at Cooks probably something close to 300...they get crowded. During the weekn Cooks is active a bit at night, expecially Taco Tuesdays and whatever they do on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
No big thing about riding in LA. CHG, if you ride here long enough, all that stuff becomes second nature and far less intimidating.
I'll be taking hwy.2 north out of L.A. to 395 & up to Yosemite. After all this discussion I can't wait to hit the road. Looks like I'll spend more time in SoCal. then I thought.

Riding the freeways of LA is a blast...lane splitting man. Try going over the Sierras via Sonora Pass, it's a ride you won't forget.
California has some of the neatest roads I've had the pleasure of riding and the cagers know all about bikes.
