Yup, here in NJ it is illegal to pump your own. I often get away with it even in my car if I don't feel like waiting (the 6'2" 240 rule).
Like the rest of the posts - I've never had an attendant even think about pumping the bike. The smart one's leave you be or walk over (run the card) and hand you the premium nozzel..
I go by the 5'7" 165lbs rule and that don't get me any extra perks, you Basturd.

Here (in NJ) it is illegal to pump your own gas. Yet it is understood that, when dealing with a motorcycle, the attendants run your card or cash and take to nozzle off and then they hand it to you and you fill the tank yourself. The guys and galsat theplace that I go to even bring a rag over to you when you take the nozzle out of the tank just in case you drip. One more perk to being on a bike.
I thought that everyone pumped their own gas. It has been self serv in Oklahoma and surrounding states for least the past twenty years. Shows you how many trips to the northeast area of the U.S.A.that I have made. Man I would have to throw down on the attendant and threaten bodly harm just to get one to walk out to the pump.
Here in NY it's been self serve for as long as I can remember, unless you really like paying $.25/gallon more to have someone pump your gas, and even these places are nearly extinct except along the Thruway. When I go to work in Jersey, I would not think twice about letting anyone pump gas when I'm on my bike. I've never had anyone try yet either, I think it is one of those things that is understood, too much chance of f'ing up a perfectly good and expensive paint job I guess.

I think they actually amended the law in Oregon so it is legal for bikers to deal with it themselves. Could just be a rumor I picked up on. Either way, I have never had an issue. They come out, and hand it right to me.
