I went to NJ in 2004 and nearly got into a fight trying to pump my own gas. The guy didn't speak english and I couldn't figure out what was going on. Anyway another customer finally explained things to me. I also wasn't allowed to pump my gas in NY City on that same trip. Being from the back woods of Tn. this confused me to death. I guess it does help cut down on gas drive offs though.

My bet is that more states will go to this as gas prices and gas thieves dictate. Here you don't even have to pay first.
I doubt that, I htink 99% of the places in the country require you to pay first.....

Every place I have been I have been allowed to pump my own gas in my bike, but then I don't go to the northeast yet, so who knows...But I do know this---if the dude at the station don't speak english I'm out of there, don't need no jabber jabber from some illeagl working at a Mini-mark.[:@]

I don't doubt it. I can pay after pumping most places around my neck of the woods too. I think it's probably a lot more common in rural areas. In more populatedplaces I tend to see the pay-first more often.

I think not. At least not in most places in Wisconsin.

I've always pumped my own gas on my bike in NJ. Most gas attendants want nothing to do with touching a bike. One time this pimple faced kid shut the pump off on me at a wawa gas station because I was pumping it myself. I turned it back on and continued pumping. He shut it off again and told me it was against the law for me to pump my own gas. I told him it was also against the law for me to beat his *** but I didn't mind. (I'm 6'3" 300lbs) He ran away to call the cops, I filled up, threw the cash at him and took off.

I've never heard of this before. I do remember when full service was the only method and the gas prices were all the same. And by the way, they are "Petroleum Transfer Engineers" not pump jockeys.

I was passing through NJ last year in the car. I started pumping my own gas and some fool who barely spoke english starts going nuts. He runs over yelling "no no no you no do that you no do that" I said WTF is wrong? He says "I pump I pump you no do that" I didn't know it was a law I just thought he really loved his job It was pretty funny watching them though. There were atleast 20 pumps and only 2 guys running around like crazy trying to keep up
There is 1 full service place around here. I only went there once on the bike. The kid came over took the nozzle off and said "hey man I don't want to pump gas in your bike if that's ok?" I said yeah that's fine. Then he kinda gives a nervous laugh and says "I don't want to get killed for f@cking up someones Harley." Must be he tried it before and someone didn't like that idea.
