Not having to get out of my car and get the smell of gas on me is about the only thing I DO like in NJ... I hope they keep this law forever! And, our gas prices are cheaper than the surrounding states I've had 1 attendant try to stop me from pumping my own gas in to the bike in the 23 years I've lived here. I just calmly stated I'd go somewhere else and he proceeded to hand me the nozzle and get me a paper towel. The Wawa I normally go to is really good. They run the card, start the pump, dump the nozzle on the ground, hand it to me and then go get a paper towel while I'm fueling... Maybe it has something with my daughter working there...
Here in NY it's been self serve for as long as I can remember, unless you really like paying $.25/gallon more to have someone pump your gas, and even these places are nearly extinct except along the Thruway. When I go to work in Jersey, I would not think twice about letting anyone pump gas when I'm on my bike. I've never had anyone try yet either, I think it is one of those things that is understood, too much chance of f'ing up a perfectly good and expensive paint job I guess.
That's ironic. New York is self serve but the gas is about .20 to .25 cents more per gallon than it ishere in Jersey. Go figure. More gasoline taxes in NY I guess. Although it is illegal here in Jersey to pump your own, the gas attendants always hand a biker the hose. They take it from the pump and return it to the pump, but they let the rider fuel up his ride. This is probably illegal too (hell, just about everything here is) but it seems to be an unwritten rule that if somebody is going to spill fuel all over that pretty bike, or the rider's crotch, let it be the rider himself.
My bet is that more states will go to this as gas prices and gas thieves dictate. Here you don't even have to pay first.
I doubt that, I htink 99% of the places in the country require you to pay first.....
around here you always pay after filling your own tank.. the only exception is along the insterstate where all the undesirables travel, but even they get to pump their own gas.
Ditto...I'm in Wisconsin too and most places outside of Madtown or MilwaukeeI can pay at the pump or inside after I fill up. If the pump says pay first or the place is run by someone I don't want to give my money to, I ride on. I can understand the owner wanting to prevent drive-offs, but I take it as an insult...sorry 'bout that.
