Default cheap learners bike?

i'm wondering what kind of bikes i should be looking at to learn on.

the price range would probably be no more than $1500. so im talking about some seriously crappy bike.

i know i probably wont find any harleys in good condition for this price. but what about an alternative?
will fire and lightning strike medown from the heavens for doing such a deed?

there are a few 80's honda andyamaha garbage road bikes that will " run " in my area for this price.
would those even be worth it? i just want somthing i can learn on and laugh at when i finally get a harley.
heres some im talking about

I had a friend who had a yamaha maxim. Great bikes. Of course not harley's, but they are bulletproof...

Look for a used Kawasaki Vulcan 500cc. It is not a bad looking bike for its' size and is set up similar to a cruiser style. They are only about 3500 or so new so you might be able to find a used one in your price range.

I don't know how big you are, but if you are an average size adult, get something with the power to haul you around even up to highway speed. That means at least a 500 CC engine, 650 or 750 would be better especially if they are older bikes. You're not really going to gain the full benefitof a learner bike if you can't leave the parking lot.

Yeah Logan, that Yami would be a good starter bike.Take the safety course when they start back up in the spring. It's free for us PA residents.Buy a cheap bike to learn on for awhile then you can go get that V-rod you want so badly.Just please take it slow.Riding is a constant learning experience.

Welcome ..To the land of two wheeled freedom machines... I have a few suggestions...In the wind is in the wind no matter what bike you ride.. But.. first make sure the cheap bike is road worthy... Meaning SAFE... If your not sure ask a knowlegable person go over the bike to check it out for you... Having low mileage and a great looking paint job isn't always a good indicator of how safe it is... Having something go wrong at speed may hurt a lot... Next thing go to a good motorcycle safety class... Learn to ride... we all did it... One more thing, after riding it awhile and you think your ready to upgrade your ride..
Don't just jump on another bigger bike... if they offer you a riding class take it... Bigger heavier bikes handle different at slower speeds...
If you have any questions anyone here will help you out... There is no such thing as a stupid question... Let us know how you make out... Have Fun...[sm=biker2.gif]

Honda rebel 250. Used, they have a 100% resale value (of the used price.. You buy it for $1000, you'll get 1000 regardless how many miles you put on it), and nationally the average time to resell them is 4 days because they are in such high demand as starter bikes.

This is Harley country, you need another 75lbs before you're fat.

Yeah, I've got 25 pounds on you and you're 3 inches taller, and even I'm a little guy! Being on two wheels is always better than being on four. I second the rebel idea.
