Turns out the case is cracked. This is a shop diagnosis, not mine. I imagine the easiest fix is to swap on a used engine? Any input on getting the bike back on the road, cheapest/easiest route would be great. Thanks!

If you don't mind going through the lower end a good machine shop would have no problem fixing the case. At least you would know what you have.

have run welded up cases and heads on dragbikes making in excess of 300 hp. As far as thread repairs are concerned i prefer a timesert over a helicoil hands down for higher torque loads, bit if there is cracked cases you need to weld them up first especially if the crack impinges on the tapped area. If you going that far as to weld the cases id suggest welding up the threaded area and re drill and tap to original size.
