Has ayone ever organized a poker run or benefit run? I have been asked to arrange one for the Relay for Life. Any ideas or info would be appreciated. Thanks
Not sure where your from or how big the city or town is, but in the sticks here we have a couple of things we try to follow. Have a big enough place to meet and end up. We try to get out of town with as few traffic light and stop sign as possible, we avoid high traffic roads and intersections. Have a good lead rider and tailgunner. Run the route first and have a good idea how many miles and hours it will take. Don't draw anymore attention to yourselves than you need to. Also if you are bar hoppin' strictly limit time at each and base it on how many stops you have. That's a little thats involved hopefully others will reply with more or better info. Good luck.
Whatever you can provide. I have never done one and don't even know where to start. Do I get with some of the local groups Local HOG, Abate, MC clubs? How much do you charge? Should I get shirts? Do I do a Poker run or just have a ride and have a cookout after? I have only ever been on one poker run. Thanks

Have to take a quick run to the store(football munchies),when I get back I'll tell you everything I did to get a run going
Ok first off seeing how Crushertx3 does about 3 per year I would surely take him up on his offer.
Not sure where your from, but in NY I needed to get insurance for the run(lay out the money & get it back thru the donations).Covers you for any accidents that may occur during your run.
You'll need to advertise, fliers, ads in cycle mags, any website you may have, etc.Thunder Press is a good cycle mag to advertise & it's free.Try & find a printer to donate the fliers(500 to 1000 should do it).You should have no trouble finding one.If you do let me know. The key word is donate.Ask your local hangouts & stores to display the fliers.
I had one guy handle the fliers,I had another go around town(local bike shops, tattoo parlors, etc) & have these vendors donate either items or discount coupons for the raffle(the raffle tickets & the 50/50 tickets were donated).I had another guy go to food vendors & had them donate the food & drink(no alcohol).Hence the insurance.Since we had alot of Firefighters & LEOs(the run was for a fallen firefighter who was a friend of mine)attended we did not want any alcohol served due to the type of benefit run it was.
I had a guy find a starting point & ending point to the run,& of coarse the route itself.A local bike shop was our starting point & a firehouse was our ending point.
We had volunteers do all the cooking,a band donated their time as well as the MC of the after party.
You will need help setting up your run,but you mentioned a few groups you know,so they should be a big help.
I had another guy find a t-shirt place that sold us some awesome shirts at cost(have to post a pic).Every shirt was sold, even the kids shirts.
The biggest concerns are, insurance, donations, volunteers,& getting the word out.I will post more as I remeber them, but like I said take Crushertx3 up on his offer.
Good luck on your run & keep us posted of it's out come.Feel free to pm me any questions you may have
