Then only shift to 6th when needed , how many times are you on the thruway with your 5 speed and look for that next gear ? everyone does it with a 5 speed , if you need it it's there ,one of the best upgrades you can make on a bike .Once you get spoiled with a 6 you will never go back.

personally I dont like the 6 speed. I just tried one on a rental 07 Ultra. If you're not at 65 or above, you keep shifting up and down. I'll keep my '87, with a 5 spd
I have the SE 6 speed in a '05 TC88 with the SE 95" big bore kit. This configuration gives me plenty of roll on power in 6th gear from 50 mph on up. I rode the bike for 3000 miles with the 6 speed on the stock TC88 motor. It was good, but there was more downshifting than I cared for. The 95" makes all the diffeence for that 6th gear.
Here is my opinion. I purposely put in a OD 6 because most of my riding 75% is actually touring around doing 50-60 MPH. That means no wear and tear on the tranny most of the time running in 5th 1:1. catch 6th on the interstate and now I am saving wear and tear on the motor. On the other hand, If I did most of my riding on the interstate, a DD6 would be preferable. Now there would be nowear and tear on the tranny because 6th would be 1:1. Baker has a RPMVS MPH thing on there web sight. It will help you understand ratios, Primary, Secondary Etc.
Went out for a ride Saturday, 200 mile trip, first time I really used 6th gear for more than a few miles. We ran about 65-70 for the whole trip. Got 50 mpg, I was happy about that.
I use 6th a lot - I figured HD built the bike with US market in mind and since your speed limit is pretty much 55 mph with most doing 60 to 65 I shift up somewhere in that range and it seems to purr along sweetly. I don't generally use 6th for urban riding - just freeways and the like.
Gonna get the speedo / tach combo for my SB and it will be interesting to see what kind of difference in revs it actually makes.
For what it's worth, many a rider crossed this country many times, accumulating millions of miles on much lower horsepower machines that only had FOUR speeds!
