So my Genuine Harley half helmet is fake? Please tell us how you know this fact. I am sure the MoCo will be interested in correcting their error...

I agree. I was being facetious.

I thought you didn't have to wear a helmet in CA
If that is true and you wear one anyway you can get a ticket for it not being DOT??

Maybe I'm just confusing things in my head

There is no law in Ca that states you need a DOT helmet. Just head protection with securing strap, I would research and fight that one.

If it is correctable, you have to go to court and show proof of the corrected violation to the judge, he can then amend the fine. The clerk can't make that call, she just looks at a chart and fines you what it indicates. If you already paid, there is nothing else you can do. They won't give you a refund, that's for sure. And jeese louise, $194 for a dang helmet violation? THAT is ridiculous!

I think this post started off as helmet tickets correctable or non correctable. CA VC 27803 is located under division 12 in the CA Vehicle Code book. You can buy this book at the DMV for around $11. EVERYTHING under Division 12 is to be written as correctable...including helmets. In this section you have things like horns and tail lights...sorry seat belts are not written in this section.

If a cop writes you a ticket as NON correctable he is deliberately screwing you. $25 fine correctable $200 fine non correctable. To be written as non correctable (under the LAW) there must be one of 3 disqualifying conditions..and the COP must tell you in writing why the citation doesnot qualify for correctable.

BUT in fact, no helmet ticket should ever be written unless you have nothing on your head Federal *****ction Easyriders v Hannigan 1996.
