I use the kill switch to cut it off. The newer models have a tilt switch in case you lay it down to shut it off. AND it works too....Don't ask how I know this...[:@]
The kill switch on my 1974 Sporty gave out about 1983. I did not have any coin so I just jumped the wires to eliminate it. Round about 1985 I was passing a truck on the freeway at close to full throttle. The throttle chose that time to stick. I did not want to blow the engine by clutching so I had to reach down and hit the key below my left leg. Bike did not have a speedo but I was going waaaaaaaaaaaaay to fast to ride with one hand. Kill switch works now!!!!!!
Yeah, when I had an oops, I saw that digital "t i l t" thing on the readout. Didn't have a clue what it meant; and thought I'd screwed the motor for a second or so. Man, that was a few days after getting the bike...... scared the hell outta me.
That's a superb idea though, having the engine shut down if the bike goes down on it's side.
Some blonde chick pulls out in front of me so I hit the "KILL" switch expecting her to die instantly but all that happened was my bike shut down. Guess I should have read the owners manual.................BG
I'm sure if you visit your dealer, they'll sell you the rest of the apparatus to make your kill switch work, along with the installation kit.
