Does it really matter whether it was $6 -- oh wait, the OP corrected a presumptious respondent, it's $40 -- or a $500 part?
If the dealer packed it crappy and it didn't arrive at its destination, that's on the shipper. The content doesn't matter.
In fact, if it HAD been just a $6 order, that woulda been even MORE reason for the dealer to just slap another one into a [sealed] envelope and make a customer happy.
You asshats who are barking at the OP to shut up and forget their lost order are the reason that everyone expects and accepts poor customer service nowadays.

I'm not a collector - but it was the first big ride I've been on (2,300 miles) so stopped at this dealer in Sturgis (to say I've ridden to Sturgis ).
And, it is a bit more than $6 - mor like $40
I didn't say it was the worst problem of my life - only that I was bitching. I had a lot more problems yesterday, but that is the only one minor enough that I can relate it to others that aren't directly involved - so I used it to blow off steam.
That being said, you guys really need to get a life if you have nothing better to do with your time than complain about how I'm complaining.
I'm sure you filled up your tank in preparation of your return trip. Have you kept the receipt as that would also "prove" you've been there?
Can't understand why you would need to prove anything to anyone but yourself. Proving to others is called "showing off"

Huh?? Did you even bother to read the thread she linked to??

heheheh, wow you had to go back pretty far for that one, but again, this is not even a close comparison. If you interpreted that thread as me "complaining", then your sense of reality is askew.
Obviously, you did take offense. Hey, some people have different opinions than yours. That's life, but it's certainly nothing to get all upset about. You allegedly lost $40 and hopefully learned something from it. My guess is that the next time you're at a new dealer, the comments from that "jerk" on the HD forum will be rattling around inside of your head and you damn sure won't forget the pins. So, for that, you're welcome!
I know you don't allow others to presume anything but like said before, if paying by credit card the onus would be on the card company's insurance.
If not, there's not a lot of help to be expected and all you can do is learn from it.
I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer never put the pins in the envelope. Think about it, they just turned a $40 profit, minus a stamp and envelope cost
