Default Why The Hell Did He Cross Over!?

Looks like a lots of questions here. A stop sign is in the picture. Looks like a cross road of some kind. Why did Dodson cross the center line? Hell of an impact. Turned pickup sideways. Took front wheel off bike. And. To add insult to death. L.S.P. said Dodson was wearing a helmet. But. It was not DOT approved. WTF. RIP Fellow Harley Davidson Rider.http://www.shreveporttimes.com/artic...62/1060/news01

I fail to see how the type of helmet would have done him any good

Good point. If someone is decapitated. He had a DOT approved helmet on or not. He is still dead. Massive internal injuries. He had a DOT approved helmet on or not. He is still dead. Media bias against motorcyclists.

Agreed on the helmet not being a factor in a head-on . We may never know why he crossed over unless he was trying to avoid something in the road? Sad to see a rider lose his life. RIP

Did this happen on a curve? If so, maybe he was a little too enthusiastic going round it...

Media bias?

If they had reported that the truck driver was not wearing his seat belt, would that be truck bias?

They reported a fact, nothing else.

Sad day for sure. It's always depressing to read of another one of us being recalled to that dealer in the sky.

Default Why He Crossed Over

I think we all have a tendency to think about things while we ride and not to be "in the moment." When your attention strays from riding, the bike starts to stray as well. I ride with a couple of guys that will be cruising along and all of a sudden they slow down 10-15mph and if I am behind them, I have to pay close attention or I would take them out. If I am in front of them, I look in the rear view mirror and don't see them at all. We all have lapses of concentration that can result in crossing the center line...it's hard to stay totally focused all the time. DOT can't fix your concentration problem or your stupidity.

No, but it can, not necessarily will, mitgate the results of your lost concentration or stupidity.

Won't argue with anyone, and not saying this is your position, but I will never understand anti-DOT sentiment.

2012 Bike and I wonder if he was a new rider. IMO, the only reason someone would cross over the line into oncoming traffic, is if they weren't paying attention - lost concentration.

As for the DOT thing, I have to agree with mmancuso. A DOT helmet may certainly increase your chances of survival if/when you do lose concentration. I always wear a helmet, but ride with lots of guys who don't. I don't rag on them about it - it's their life to live or lose, not mine.

I guess the moral of the story is: PAY ATTENTION OUT THERE so we don't have to read about you in here.

Nope. Looks to be straight roads according to Google Maps. Must have been something else. RIP....
