Hey Ryan good to hear you are going out and looking at new bikes. Sometimes it's good to get out of the house and in the fresh air. Also looking at new bikes sounds like fun. Hope your Doc appt. goes well too. Good to see lots of support here for you.
Ryan,
Very sorry to hear about your accident but I totally understand how you feel. On September 8, 2011 my wife and I were on our way home from dinner (we live in Nashville TN) we were coming through the intersection at Woodland st. and Interstate drive which is right downtown next to LP field (the Titans stadium). We had a green light and were heading east. There was a 32 year old woman in the west bound turn lane who was talking and flirting with the two men in the car next to her. When their light turned green to go straight she stomped on the gas and turned left into us hitting us broadside. My wifes left foot was crushed, her tibia and fibula were broken and she also broke her femur. My left foot, ankle, tibia and fibula were broken. My tibia and fibula both came out of my leg and scraped the pavement and as a result I lost an inch and a half of my tibia. My wife had her foot amputated the next day since there was no hope of saving it.
When the doctor came to my room to tell me what my injuries were he told me he could save my leg by removing the left abdominal muscle and putting it in my leg. I refused I ask him to amputate my leg so I could get to healing faster.
He refused to amputate and after two days of my refusing he finally convinced me to let him do the surgery this was the biggest mistake of my life. They did the surgery and did not hook up enough return blood flow to my heart and as a result I got bloodclots and had to have emergency surgery to remove the ab muscle and clots.
All in all I had 9 surgeries spent 4 months in the ICU and ended up having my leg amputated in late December. Since they amputated my leg I have healed up and I am doing great. When we had the accident I was 205lbs with a 32 waist. When I got out of the hospital I weighed 140lbs. I am now up to 195 and feeling healthy again.
My advice to you would be to eat as clean as possible no fried foods, plenty of protein and vegetables. That will help you heal faster and do some sort of exercise everyday. I used bungee straps to work my arms and neck.
In March my wife and I went to Bost Harley Davidson in Nashville with me still on crutches and ordered a 2012 Triglide. I got my prosthetic leg and two days later picked up my triglide. I had the dealer install a jockey shift since I cannot use a regular shifter or even a heel to shift because of the size of my feet.
We have put 5000 miles on our trike since we got it the last week of April. I ride almost everyday and absolutely love our trike. If you would like any info on the jockey shift or have any questions about rehab Id be happy to help anyway I can.
We are both very fortunate to be alive and very happy to be riding again. Don't stop doing what you love. Everyone told me
Sorry I accidentally hit the post quick reply tab. Everyone told me it was too soon to ride again but I personally didn't think it was soon enough. My wife and I are doing great and living normal lives. By the way after her surgery she was out of the hospital and rehab in 12 days. She never left my side, she stayed in the hospital with me the entire time.
We have a bond that is amazing. I forgot to ad we had gotten married one month before the accident.
Be strong hang in there I was unable to walk for almost 8 months from Sept 8 2011 till April 25, 2012. Honestly it felt like an eternity to me. But with the support of my wife, family and friends I am here today to tell my story. I wish you the best and hope you have a speedy recovery.
Your Primary Care guy may not be hip to all the new TRT / Hormone related issues. You may want to consult a guy that specializes in that stuff. Depending on how old you are it could really be a super positive change in your life. Probably a good time for something like that for you!
BKNEWCOMB, man I'm sorry to hear about you and your wife's ordeal, I thank you for sharing it really helped put mine back in perspective so to speak, I went by the local HD dealer and checked out a TG in person, even though the dr's are saying I have a good chance of near full recovery, there are concerns about holding the weight on my injured leg, besides that I've always wanted a trike anyway, I'm going to do pipes, air cleaner and tuner as soon as I get it home, and down the road air suspension and possibly a big bore kit
Warmasheen, I talked to my dr yesturday about it, he feels at 37 I "probobly" wont have too much of a hormone issue, but if I do show signs of it, he has no problem referring me to a specialist, he just wants to see how I am once I'm off the pain meds....

cayers, thanks bro, my love of riding is in my blood, I'm 37 and started riding at 10, its hard to imagine stopping, as in my last post, I'm going to go with a TG because I've always wanted a trike, but it's going to end up hot rodded and custom to fit my tastes, shooting for stump pulling torque and around 115 horses
I'd like that outcome, however she owns nothing, had a small insurance policy and get this, she was cited for 2 things:
1. Improper lane useage
2. Failure to maintain minimum highway speed
Thats it!!!! Despite 6 witness statements saying she was stopped or backing up...
Yep, that's how it is. You can even kill someone and still get a slap on the wrist. There are no "accidents" in my book. Someone or something is always at fault, in this case, it was her.
