The dealership should be able to replace it with just the vin. They will have to order it and you might have to cut off an arm and a leg for it but they should be able to.

The dealer requires the following

VIN
Title and or Registration in your name
ID

Same thing to get an extra key cut too.

If it is the round barrel type of key the dealer should be able to relate it, with the VIN, to a key "number" and order it in for you. There should be no need for a lock to cut it to match.

It is the round barrel type, thanks for the quick responses.

order a trunk lock for your bike keyed to match. it is like $20 and comes with two keys. they can get them for all models. if you order the keys alone, it costs a lot more money.
all you need is the vin#, they might ask to see a title or registration to prove you own the bike..

I've gotten a couple of replacement keys using just the VIN. Both barrel and flat. Had to wait about a week before they showed up. If I remember, they ran about 30.00 for the barrel style and 20.00 for the flat one. They come in pairs.

Your original 2 keys will have a number under the plastic cover. Remove any key chain and slide plastic cover off key. Go to your dealer and present ID and key number. They will order from Milwaukee. About $25 for the pair with no plastic covers. They are called barrel keys. Takes a couple weeks to get 'em. Just read OP, thought it read you lost a key, not the only key. Brain fart.

I lost one key and getting a replacement was easy. Although I had the other key and thus the key number, they still checked the computer with the VIN to verify, so all you need is the VIN. They weren't very expensive. Humorously, they do not come with the plastic covers, but you can buy a pair of those from them for something like $2.

Went to get extra barrel keys for my Heritage and noticed that buying the locking kit (which comes with 2 keys, keyed for my ignition) for my leather bags was cheaper than buying 2 extra keys alone. Doesn't make any sense, but there ya go. Check into it...if you have to pay it anyway, you might as well get more for your $$$.
