Question Dragging footpegs...

I love crusing on my DYNA, but I also love riding it like a sport bike in the corners. I'm new to the Harley scene so I'm not sure what to do about my pegs constantly scraping the pavement in the corners. I want to make my bike fast and nimble but also keep the riding position cofortable on long rides, but is this really possible? Am I asking too much of one bike or do I need to just wait and get a second Harley (sporster or V-rod?) for riding like a hooligan?

A longer shock and maybe motocross type foot peg like this might help.

You wont be able to lean it over as far as you would on a sport bike, but dragging the pegs is completely normal. They have several different pegs with tips on the bottom just for dragging and sparking. I do it all the time.

You need to upgrade the stock shocks and a spring kit in the front end minimuin , OEM harley suspension is pathetically soft on a good day and if your used to the solid sport bike feel & riding style you'll be scraping all kinda chrome off the harley regular . I hear you I've busted pegs , ground up boot heels & floorboards , trashed several sets of pipes , chewed a couple kickstands almost off and knocked holes in 2 primaries before I did mine .

Slow learner what can I say .

I drag my pegs sometimes, and I laugh my *** off every time I do. Maybe I'm.nuts, but i think its hilarious looking at peoples reactions to the sparks and noise.

A HD is no sport bike, I used to ride them and still like to ride the twisty roads - you just have to adjust your speed downward a fair way's because if you don't you could scrape something solid enough to lose contact with the pavement and it will all be downhill from there..........so to speak.

Longer rear shocks and better front suspension will help, as will some 2into1 pipes and some pegs are of course shorter than others, like the HD vibration isolating pegs or several of the sportster pegs that have curb feelers.

Someone makes adjustable gas shocks for Dynas, forget who right now. Traxxion makes fork upgrades that I want for my bike, someday.

I've ground the stock mid pegs down enough to get another degree or two of lean out of the bike, however, looking at my tires shows me that I'm to the edge of the tread at this point (especially on the front). Actually have some markings on the sidewalls probably due to a bit of tire flex and/or undulation in the pavement. When I touch down a peg at this point, which is metal grinding because the rubber is worn through, I back off the turn immediately to get the peg back up off the ground.

Can't see being able to get any more lean out of the bike safely, regardless of suspension tweaks, without going to entirely different contoured tires and/or leaning into the turns e.g. ("dragging a knee") which would be going to the point of ridiculousness (in my opinion).

Edit: Forgot this was the "general" forum; I'm talking about a stock dyna--would definitely agree that some other bikes, especially those with footboards and/or custom forwards, start burying the peg long before you're out of tread
