I start my bikes only after I have the gloves on and garage is closed. Once I start it, I am ready to go. My wife on the other hand, read the owners manual for her bike and insists on sitting in the driveway for 2 or 3 minutes warming it up. If I will be riding with her, I wait until she puts hers in gear before I start mine. That gives me a couple minutes to enjoy the last few puffs on my cigar.

Sure they do. If I simply start it and go, it sounds rough like it ain't properly lubricated yet. Usually I let it run for say 2 minutes and all is well. I think the rockers need oil before those push rods start slamming into them at a high rate. Plus the transmission don't seem to be ready either if you take right off.

I fire mine up and let it sit there & idle for 1-2 minutes, then take it easy for the first couple miles while riding out of town. Warm up time may be extended to 3-4 minutes if it's really cold. Even if it's 90+ outside, I won't get on it hard until I've rode about 7-10 miles & I know everything is up to full operating temp.

I've seen guys leaving work fire up there fuelie bikes and leave immediately. I would at least let it idle for 30 secs or so to get the oil moving. Now my carb'd bike needs a good minute or so before it wants to head out. I believe any vehicle needs at least a short "warmup" on a cold start.

Long enough to put on my gloves. No wheelies for several miles til she is purring like a lion.
