I have heard that some bikes had problems, up to 2007. The stator & something else had been giving them trouble.

Not sure if all models or just some...probably have to search the net...which is usually a GOOD thing to do before you buy ANYTHING! Search for problems on the net!

Find someone who knows Harleys & whom you trust & take them with you when you go looking for a bike. This is very important. Do not buy a Harley blindly without knowing anything about them. Did that with my first bike back in '72, and didn't exactly make the best choice (BSA)

Dunno what your budget is, but depending on your size & what you are going to do with the bike, I would get familiar with Harley's 5 different platforms, best by visiting a dealership, sit on a few, ask questions, but DO NOT let the salesman pressure you. Let your friend who knows Harleys give you some advice.

As with ANYTHING mechanical, you can have problems. I've got a 2002 Road King and a 2004 Heritage, neither of which have ever had any problems...they've been taken good care of, oil changed ever 2-3000 miles and never had an issue.

So take what you read with a grain of salt. You NEVER hear from the guys NOT having problems, but the guys HAVING problems you hear ALL about! Being a mechanic, you'd know that...

Determine what you want, then find the one that is the best deal for YOUR price range and that shows signs of being well cared for! Lots of them out there!

WELCOME!!!

The Softails and Dynas are great bikes, both using the "big twin" engines. Each has its own unique styling and riding characteristics. Decide which you like better. There's no right or wrong answer. It's what you prefer -- you'll be riding it. Then buy the newest/lowest mileage bike you can afford.

I bought a 2007 Low Rider last June for $10K, it had 1629mi when I got it, had spoke wheels instead of the mags.

From your height, you'll probably want something lower, or that can be lowered.

I always liked my brother-in-law's Low Rider....good luck with the search...there are a lot of them out there.

Welcome to the forums!

I have a 2007 Dyna Street Bob, 5' 8" 200lbs. Been very happy with the Dyna overall. I am sure the Softy's are just as nice.

Mariano, Welcome to the forum! Since you're new to HDs, thought you might not know the difference between the Dyna and Softail. Both are great, but the motor is rubber mounted on the Dyna and counterbalanced on the Softail. The significance in this is that the Softail will feel smoother at idle and the Dyna will have a "shake" at idle. It'll smooth out at cruising speeds and provide a bit more power though. The other major difference, which is pretty obvious, is the hidden suspension on the Softails. This gives the bike that classic hardtail look/stance but with the comforts of a suspension. Hope that helps some.
