After all, how much could go wrong on a 3 block trip to bike night every Saturday?
I've spent several days in a row riding in mountains without a cell phone signal, or anywhere to use a credit card.
My tool kit will fix just about anything on the bike and it all fits in one of those teardrop toolboxes. The other one stays empty, so I can lock my gun in it if I need to.

True - I have never had to fix anything on my bike or my wifes, on the side of the road, except a couple of malfunctioning, non-harley, after-market parts (extended shift lever on my old sporter came apart, previous-owner-rigger headlight/guage modification broke) and once, after an oil change, I had to tighten my primary drain plug when I noticed a few drops seeping out. But, if worse come to worse, I have the tools.

- If you're still under warranty/HOG coverage, then all you need is a charged cell, HOG# & plastic.
- When bike's out-of-warranty, keep in mind the objective (small fix, or get to shop) so get a decent bike tool pouch with minimal things you'll need for a quick fix. Lots of discount sites sell them, just do a search.
I carry the standard HD set that comes with touring, another larger pouch with 2X the amount of tools, a tire repair kit, some black tape & tie wraps and my cell. Pretty much covers anything I need to fix on the road.
The non touring models don't come with a tool kit. HD sell a rolled up kit, not surprisingly it's expensive - about $110 - I had a quick look at one a few weeks ago and figured it was overpriced. I should have some tools on the bike even though my bike is a 2012 it makes sense to carry some.
