I swung by the dealer today to pick up or order in the extended shifter levers for my bike. As is turned out, they didn't have them in stock, no biggie, and I told them to just go ahead and order them in for me. A few weeks ago I got some new boots and I guess they are larger than my old ones and my left foot has been feeling a little cramped.
He quoted me a quick price and I replied that I would be in their computer for a discount. I jokingly said "are these a 10% off item or do they qualify for a bigger discount?" AMAZINGLY he replied "I don't know. Let me check them out in the computer to see if they qualify for a larger discount".
SOB! They have a larger discount for items that they normally stock, the levers being one of them. They were just out of stock! The applied discount was 20%.
If anyone is interested the dealership is -
Liberty Harley Davidson of Rahway, NJ. They work hard to get and keep their customers!
The discount structure is a complete mystery to me. I've had Zero, 10% & 20% at the same dealer - what's that all about?!
I recently went into a (Not local) dealer with a list worth over Ł500 ($800). When I asked about discount I was told it only applied to members of the HOG Chapter they sponsored. I asked if they were happy to pass up on my buisness and they said "Yes"!! 40 miles up the road I got 15%!
Some want to see your HOG card, others couldn't give a toss.
What pi$$es me off is that whatever discount is offered, it's built into the price at the outset.
The H-D marketing machine is one of the best in the world, and unfortunately, it's got us all by the nuts!! I might try to grow longer ears and become a proper donkey!
Originally I was told that because I bought my bike there they would put me in to their computer for a years worth of 10% discount. That was 5 years ago! "Their" customers (all that know better) receive the 10% discount. I'll be asking for now on whether what I am buying qualifies for a larger discount!
There is no discount "structure". It's all got to do with the employee that happens to be standing in front of you, how they feel, and if they like you. As well as how upper management feels about doing business. I spent over 20 years in the parts business. I'd give various discounts off list and various discounts over cost. I also had my own pricing structure that I treated like list (but was higher) known as a matrix. On top of all that I also had what I called the "PIA discount: I'll let you figure out what kind of discount that is.

It depends on the dealer. My local dealer offers anywhere from 10-15% depending on how much you buy from them.
I bought my Limited from a dealer in TN that uses the MVP program. I get 15% off, + no tax, which = 24% off of Harley retail and free shipping. As long as I maintain a certain point level I get the discount so I've been ordering parts and tires for friends for the past two years. Do not know which I like more, the 24 % off or the fact that I am not paying sales tax.
So funny you should mention liberty hd. I just bought my first harley and made a few trips to williams hd in lebanon nj. They seemed alright nothing special just alright, while at work the other day i stopped in at liberty in rahway to look at helmets and what a nice bunch down there. Helpful, friendly and seemed they really cared about earning my buisness. Well liberty-you got it!!

You can get 20% off MSRP w/ no sales tax & free shipping from several online dealers/merchants who offer also great service. The only negative is you won't be considered MVP. <Just kidding>
