First off, I was at the first one in Salmon Arm BC a couple years ago and have to say the events & grounds were nothing to write home about. But the rides in that area were awesome. Especially the back side of the lakes. Funny thing is I remember maybe passing a dozen bikes on the Saturday afternoon, where there were over 10k bikes in town. So I guess most were there to shine and party. My partying was done at the campsite at nights once we realized the grounds were empty and lack of culture.
With that said, now I am getting the itch to go back for another Sturgis North event mostly for the riding. But I ask, folks that went to last years event in Vernon...how was it? I read some crappy reviews on the event itself. I assume this year will be no different. Which is no biggy, since buddy and me plan on enjoying the pub action instead and avoid the grounds for the most part. Point is to go on some awesome day rides and be amongst other bikers without actually being part of the scam and commercial atmosphere of the event itself.
And what motels are recommended? That is close to the pub action and has your bike parked right outside the door?
I went last year for the first time, probably go again this year depending on who's playing. I only went to see the bands, Blue Oyster Cult, and Foghat. Two bands from my youth.
The venue was great for a concert. Inside the race track in front of the stands. Standing room on the track, or seating a bit further back. Really enjoyed that, took the free school bus back to the camping area.
It's not a poser rally so some folks wouldn't like it. If you're looking for a place to wear your HD brand pirate outfit and think people are going to kiss your ***, it's not going to happen.
I'm planning to check out Sturgis North this year. Not trying to hi-jack the thread but in Canada there is another good one in mid north Ontario, Biker's Reunion http://www.bikersreunion.ca/index.php
It's worth checking out and the whole thing is for a really good cause.
